Hey readers! Here we are at the end of another week. This week was a weird one. I haven’t been very productive this week and this week’s newsletter will attest to that.
PODCAST STUFF
Rebel Rock Radio did not have a livestream this week because my band had a show on Tuesday night (see below). I might try to record a new episode of Pure Rank this weekend. I dunno. We’ll see.
MUSIC STUFF
This Tuesday, we (Get Fired) played at the Grand Royale in Oklahoma City. We opened for a band from New Jersey called The Sheckies. It was a good show. We had fun. People responded well so that always makes a show more fun. We have a few more shows scheduled now and we still need to eventually start working on our new album.
READING STUFF
This week’s pull list was short. I mean, I guess, typically it is since I don’t really have a lot of subscriptions these days. Anyway, this week, I had 2 books on my list:
Batman #144
Ultimate Spider-Man #2
While I am thinking about it, what IS on my pull list these days? Looking through it, my pull list currently consists of Batman, Darth Vader, Doctor Aphra, Superior Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Ultimate X-Men (reserved for when it releases). Hmmm…I guess I forgot to add the current Daredevil run on there. I need to fix that.
Volume 2 of Ram V’s run of Detective Comics came out recently so I grabbed that and read it.
GAMING STUFF
I have nothing to report here. I was not at the game shop on Monday to play Vast Grimm and I haven’t been on my Xbox or PS5 this week at all.
FOOD STUFF
I’d like to talk a bit about pizza. Recently, I felt like maybe I was pizza’d out. Like I had eaten too much lately and just wasn’t enjoying eating it anymore. However, I think I figured out the problem. It isn’t that I was sick of pizza. I think it was being sick of franchise pizza. We had been eating a lot of pizza from random franchise places like Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Little Ceasars, Dominos, etc…and I think that I just don’t like “fast food” pizza anymore. Much like I don’t like “fast food” tacos anymore. I prefer going to a taco truck and ordering their tacos. They are so much better. I think this is the same case with pizza for me now. Late last week, we ordered pizza from a local place. It is a place that we have tried before although it has been quite a while. In any case, both of us really liked the pizza. So maybe if we get the urge to eat pizza, we just try out different local places and see which one we like best. By the way, for those of you that are near me, the name of the place that we tried last week is called The Pizza Shop.
Last Friday, we checked out an Irish pub that we had never been to. It’s in a part of town that we don’t frequent because it is right next to the campus of Oklahoma University. We prefer to stay away from that area. Anyway, we went there specifically because we heard that their fish and chips were really good. The verdict is that the fish was really good but the chips (fries obviously) were on the unseasoned side. If I want fish and chips I could see myself going back…maybe.
SPORTS STUFF
Saturday I woke up at the butt crack of dawn to drive down to Oklahoma City to hang out with some folks and watch the Liverpool match. It started at 6:30am my time. It was a good time. Once the match kicked in, I didn’t feel as tired as I was. Match was good. Liverpool beat Brentford 4-1.
And then there was the match against Luton Town on Wednesday. It was looking a little dismal at the end of the first half. Liverpool was down 1-0. Klopp must have really laid into them at halftime because they came back in the 2nd half and just absolutely dominated. Luton Town didn’t have any kind of chance against them the rest of the game. Liverpool wound up taking it 4-1.
Liverpool will be playing in the EFL Cup Final this weekend (Sunday) against Chelsea.
As of this writing, Liverpool is 4 points ahead in the table (standings):
STUFF I WATCHED
Bob Marley: One Love - The wife and I went and saw this at AMC Robinson (the theater that I frequent) on Sunday afternoon. It was a good movie. I don’t think it’ll make my top 10 of the year list but it was worth a viewing. It wasn’t really what I was expecting. Still, I’d recommend it.
Dumb Money - I remember seeing the trailer for this last year and thinking that I wanted to see it. I watched it Sunday evening on Netflix (was it Netflix?). I’m actually kind of glad that I didn’t go see it in the theater. It was…okay. I wouldn’t watch it again.
The Holdovers - I watched this Monday night on streaming. I remember seeing the trailer for this one last year and thinking that I did NOT want to see this. I am glad that I did not go see this one in the theater either. I did not like this movie.
Darkest Hour - This biopic about Winston Churchill is one that I had been meaning to watch for a while and never got around to it. It was good. Oldman’s acting is always superb.
I also watched the MLK/X series on Disney Plus and I watched the first 3 episodes of season 3 of The Bad Batch, also on Disney Plus. We will be talking about those episodes on next week’s livestream of Rebel Rock Radio.
Other than that, I’m still working my way through Ted Lasso. So far, we (wife and I) finished the first and second season and have started the third.
TRACK OF THE WEEK
For this week’s track, I consulted my Last.fm profile to see what song I have listened to the most this week and went with that for a track of the week. Usually, I try to feature something new but nothing came out this week that was really all that interesting. Anyway, here it is.
And that’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and remember to BE MORE KIND!
The Pizza Shop RULES!
