Welcome back readers!
I am starting a collection of Lego minifigures. I’ve already got a pretty good start on it I just need to figure out how I want to display them. My wife showed me a minifigure display box that she found on Amazon so I am probably going to go that way. Currently, I have approximately 56 minifigures so, like I said, I’ve got a good start. The ones I have are a mix of Star Wars (no big surprise there), Marvel, and DC characters. I am probably going to focus more on Star Wars minifigs but there are some Marvel ones that I’d like to own as well so I’ll get some of those if I come across them.
Also, remember back in September when I was talking about the idea of getting back on ADHD medication? Well, I finally talked to my doctor about it and he has written me a prescription. I am not sure when I’ll start taking it because the pharmacy is out of stock on the medication that he prescribed. I’m still concerned about the idea of how much my personality will change, if at all, if this medication works. I guess I’ll find out.
I don’t typically watch the Academy Award presentations. This year is no different. However, while most of the time I don’t really care about who wins because the movies that generally get nominated and win these awards are movies that I don’t care about. That was a bit different this year. Here is a breakdown of some of the movies that won awards this year:
Best Picture - Oppenheimer (I approve. Great movie. My favorite of 2023)
Best Director - Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer
Best Actor - Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer (Good for him. This is his first)
Best Actress - Emma Stone for Poor Things (I haven’t seen this movie yet)
Best Animated Feature - The Boy and the Heron (Spider-Man: Across the Universe was nominated but didn’t win. Bummer. Granted, I have not seen The Boy and the Heron.)
Best Original Score - Ludwig Goransson for Oppenheimer (To be honest, the score for this movie was not very memorable for me but I did really like the stuff he did on The Mandalorian)
Best Visual Effects - Godzilla Minus One (The effects on this movie were really good and I think this might be the first time ever that a Godzilla movie has won an Oscar.)
Anyway, it is cool that Oppenheimer won so many awards (7 total). Another movie called The Zone of Interest looks interesting and it won 2 awards (Best Sound and Best International Feature).
PODCAST STUFF
This week on Rebel Rock Radio, we talked about Legos, the Academy Awards, ADHD, the 1984 Police Academy movie, and played tunes from For I Am, Red Vanilla, and Atomic Life! Check out the video below or at our audio platforms by visiting rebelrockradio.com.
The Iconis Podcast put out a new stream this week that dove into Madame Web. The one from the comics, not the movie.
A new, St Patrick’s Day special edition of Punk Lotto Pod dropped this week as well. They covered Swagger, the 2000 debut of Flogging Molly!
MUSIC STUFF
Since I forgot to do this last week, here are a list of my favorite album releases from February:
Night Thoughts - Dead Years
Fitness - Northeast Regional
Blasted - Mean Jeans
Blacked Out - The Drowns
READING STUFF
The only comic on my pull list this week was Darth Vader #44.
I finished the audiobook of Dune this morning. I think I will eventually read the next book in the series but I think before I do that I’m actually going to read through some of the Dune graphic novels that are out there.
GAMING STUFF
Monday night they were running the Star Wars RPG so I was so ready for that! I haven’t played in that game as a player in so long. I’ve always been the game runner. I think the last time I played in that game as a player was before COVID. I had a blast. We played with pregenerated characters because there were some folks in the game that had never played it before and, to be honest, the character creation process in that game can be kind of daunting. I played a murderous female Twilek bounty hunter. next week, the GM said that we could create our own characters if we wanted to and knew how to do it so I’ll be creating my own for the next session. Really looking forward to it!
Other than that, I’ve played a little bit more of Fallout 76.
FOOD STUFF
I don’t have much here this week. I didn’t eat anywhere new. Last night, we did go out to Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar. I might have mentioned that place before. I really like it. You can get the burgers they have on the menu or, they have a separate thing where you can fully customize your burger. They give you a little notepad with all of the options on there and you just fill out what all you want on it, how you want it cook, what type of bun, etc… Last night, I got a burger with a fried egg on it. The only disappointing thing about our visit at Bad Daddy’s last night was that they stopped having the option to put pastrami on your burger.
SPORTS STUFF
Liverpool had a match on Sunday against Manchester City. The match ended in a draw. I was not able to watch it live because it aired while I was at band practice. Because of the tie they are now tied for first in the tables (standings) with Arsenal. They had another match on Thursday in the Europa League against Sparta Praha where they won 6-1. It was a crazy match. Liverpool had 4 goals within the first 15 minutes of the match.
Their next match is in the quarter finals of the FC Cup against Manchester United.
STUFF I WATCHED
Over the weekend I rewatched the show The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and started rewatching the first season of Iron Fist. I also rewatched the 1984 movie Police Academy in preparation for the live stream on Tuesday. I started watched the show The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I’ve never watched that show before but I like the whole Terminator series so I figured I’d give it a shot. Oh yeah, I went out last night and watched Dune Part Two again. This time at another IMAX theater (not the same IMAX that I saw it at last week). This IMAX theater was a better experience. The movie is still great after watching it 3 times.
TRACK OF THE WEEK
New York-based band Broadcaster released a new EP called Daylight today. This is the opening track from that EP. Enjoy.
That’s it for this week. Have a good weekend and remember to BE MORE KIND!
