Hey readers! Welcome back to my daily dose of nonsense!
Not really much to talk about this week. Last weekend, we were at SoonerCon here in Norman. SoonerCon is an annual fan/nerd convention that they hold here in Oklahoma. I say “we” because my wife had a vendor booth set up at the convention to sell her stuff. I didn’t do a lot while I was there. I mostly just hung out and talked to the 501st folks. If you aren’t familiar with it, the 501st is a Star Wars costume group that perform charity work around the world. Basically a bunch of Star Wars nerds that get dressed up in costumes and do stuff like hospital visits and other stuff. I am considered a “recruit” and not a member because I do not have my costume finished. I really need to get on the ball and finish that. Anyway, here’s a link where you can learn more about the 501st if you are interesting in it.
I made a bad decision on Saturday while I was there though. My wife needed batteries so I told her I would walk…yes walk down to the Target to get some batteries for her. I thought that the Target was much MUCH closer than it actually was. I got about halfway there and just thought to myself “shit this was a bad idea.” In any case, I was pretty exhausted for most of the rest of the day because of that. Getting old and having diabetes sucks.
In other news, I got up this morning and found out via social media that apparently there was a presidential debate going on. Honestly, I don’t care about the election this year and in fact, I’m not even registered to vote. I never re-registered from when I moved back from Michigan. Yeah, that is the extent of any sort of political discussion you are going to get from me on this newsletter.
So…….
This week on Rebel Rock Radio we were joined by Pete of Around the Galaxy to discuss the 4th episode of The Acolyte and we played tunes from Fervents, SubbXMudie, and J Prozac.
Dave dropped another episode of One Band 5 Songs this week. This week, he covered the Dallas based punk band Hagfish!
Punk Lotto Pod dropped a new episode this week too. They covered the 1988 Seven Seconds album Ourselves.
#NEWMUSICFRIDAY
Here are some good albums that were released today:
MakeWar - A Paradoxical Theory of Change
Boids - Boids
Virginity - Bad Jazz
Teardrops - Something to Cry About
Here is what I got this week from my comic book pull list:
Darth Maul: Black, White & Red #3
Superior Spider-Man #8
X-Men ‘97 #4
I started listening to the audio book of Star Wars: The Living Force by John Jackson Miller.
Last Friday the new season of Red 5 Tavern kicked off and I introduced by new character: a dragonborn paladin named Gaalred.
Also on the subject of Dungeons and Dragons, I ran another session of D&D at DM Daves for new players. The same players from last week came back and a couple more signed up.
Also this week at DM Dave’s, I joined the Star Wars RPG on Monday. My character is a mechanic named Doodad that collects droids and he cleaned up in this session. The group came across a republic star cruiser from the Clone Wars out in space and found a bunch of droids and droid parts. So he has a pretty good collection of droids now.
I didn’t watch anything in theaters this week but I did rewatch Rogue One, The Rise of Skywalker, and Attack of the Clones.
I was supposed to have the season of the 9th doctor of Doctor Who finished by the end of the month. Today is the 28th and I’m only about 5 or 6 episodes into it so I doubt that goal is going to be reached.
On the subject of watching TV and or movies, has anybody been watching the new Star Wars show The Acolyte? If so, what are your thoughts?
This week’s track is a new single from Minneapolis-based band Scrunchies. The single was just released today and it will also be on their album Colossal that comes out in August.
That is all for this week kids. Have a great weekend!
I am enjoying The Acolyte quite a bit. IMHO, the Jedi/Force stuff is the best part of Star Wars and so a show steeped in that aspect of the galaxy far, far away is right up my alley.
