Welcome to another Monday readers.
Hmmm…..what’s been going on with me? Still no job. I have had some interviews but nothing solid has come up yet. I’m not gonna lie. I’m getting really frustrated with the job search. Usually, if I am in a position where I need to find a job, I usually find something really quick. I have been thinking about getting into a different industry. I’ve even gone so far as to look into training programs for other career fields. But I’ve already got so much experience in the field I’m in now and that jobs are out there. I’m just not having any luck landing them. I’m not sure where I’m at with that right now.
On another note, can you believe I’ve been doing this newsletter thing for 3 years now? Who knew that I would stick with this thing for so long. To be honest, I have thought about pulling the plug a few times but I’m still here. There is a new segment I have been thinking of doing but I’m not sure if I’m actually going to do it as a new segment on this newsletter or if I’m going to put it out as a “note” periodically. I’ll figure something out.
Anyway, that’s enough of my intro jibber jabber. Here’s the good stuff….
There weren’t any news releases last week that, at least to me, were not all that interesting. However…..
If you haven’t gotten a chance to read it yet, I posted my favorite albums that were released in 2024 last week here on Substack.
Here is my Spotify Wrapped for 2024. I am not surprised that Bad Religion was my most listened to artist but I am surprised that NOFX make the top 5. I don’t remember listening to them that much this year.
There were 7 comic books on my pull list last week. This will be the last week for a while that you will see so many books on my pull list. Due to being unemployed I have had to cut expenses so I have cut my pull last down to what I am referring to as the bare essentials. Hopefully, I will start working again soon and I can add my regular reads back to the pull list.
Absolute Superman #2
Batgirl #2
Batman #155
Birds of Prey #16
Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #8
Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Republic Under Siege #3
Two-Face #1
Here are some other comic books that I read last week:
Superman: House of Brainiac by Joshua Williamson and Mark Russell
Action Comics Vol. 1: Path of Doom by Dan Jurgens
Batman: Noel by Lee Bermejo
No theater trips last week.
I watched the Battlestar Galactica “mini-series” that came out in 2003. I watched it on Amazon Prime. I’m thinking that I might start watching the actual TV series that followed this mini-series. I’m not sure why they call it a mini-series. For me, it was just a 3 hour movie. After reading the Wikipedia article, it appears that it originally aired in 2 parts on Syfy. Hmm…why bother? Just air it. Oh well. Anyway, I liked it enough to consider watching the TV series.
The series finale of Superman & Lois dropped last week. Hard to believe that the show is over after only 4 seasons, especially with how good a show it was. I guess that it’s time had come and with James Gunn re-booting everything in film, it does make sense. The season finale was good. The “friends and family” ending was kind of corny was corny in a good way. Overall, this was a good show and Tyler Hoechlin does a really good job as Clark Kent/Superman. To be completely honest though, he is still my 2nd favorite live action Clark/Superman after Tom Welling. But it is pretty close. Also, I feel like the writers of this show really get the character. That, to me, is the most important thing about capturing this comic book character in a live action format. You have to understand the motivation and essence of Superman to get it right and very few have been able to.
I also watched the first couple of episodes of Creature Commandos which just came out on Thursday (Dec 5). They were good enough to make me want to continue watching the series but if I’m being completely honest I’m really only watching it because I want to see where James Gunn is going with this new DC universe.
Another TV show that I binged over the week was Gotham Knights. It was a show that only lasted a season for 13 episodes. It was not great. But at the same time it was not the most horrible thing I’ve ever watched. It felt like, at least to me, that the premise and elements of the story were good but the execution fell very very short.
Oh yeah. I also re-watched Batman Returns last night.
On Rebel Rock Radio, we held our annual Winter Shenanigans episode where we talked about whatever. This year, we discussed whether or not Die Hard is a Xmas movie and other assorted nonsense.
Also, the guys over at Punk Lotto Pod dropped another episode. On this one, they talked about the Green Day album that came out in 2000 (Warning).
This week’s track comes from Carson McHone’s EP ODES. It is the cover of a Conway Twitty song.
That’s it for this time around. Have a great week and remember to be more kind!
