Well, here’s another edition of the Otter Limits newsletter. I’m bad at keeping this updated but I will continue to try and get these out at semi-regular intervals.
WHAT’S GOING ON WITH STEVE? Do you care?
First up, this week (February 2nd) was my birthday. It was the big 5-0. How did I get so old? I mean, I haven’t died yet so I guess that is the simple answer. Anyway, it was a good birthday. I had to work so that took up a big chunk of the day. After work, I opened presents. I got some cool new Star Wars shirts and the one shown in the picture above. I also got a new Xbox. Other than that, we didn’t go out and do anything (we typically go out for a huge family dinner every year) because we had a little bit of a winter storm here in Oklahoma. So for dinner I just went out and grabbed some pizza and we sat and had a quiet dinner at home. After that, I played some Xbox and watched AEW Dynamite. The only other thing interesting about yesterday is that a new episode of The Book of Boba Fett dropped. And boy was it a good one!
Next, if you don’t already know, we are all moving up to Michigan in a few months. We bought a house up there already and closed on it last week. We are moving to be closer to family. The area we are going to be moving to is circled in green on the map above. The largest “city” near us will be Grand Rapids. We will be about 3 hours from Chicago so I’m looking forward to spending some time down there.
PODCAST UPDATES
Rogue One Radio
This week on Rogue One Radio, the crew talked about chapter five of the Disney Plus show, The Book of Boba Fett. Plus, we revealed the results of the newest listener poll that asked our listener’s choice for favorite animated Star Wars series. Star Wars Rebels won by an overwhelming amount. Additionally, we played a tune by Carbondale, Illinois-based pop-punk band The Copyrights. You can listen to the podcast on Apple here:
Around The Ring
This week on Around the Ring, the pro wrestling podcast that I co-host with Justin Hensley, we chatted about AEW’s Beach Break shows, WWE’s Royal Rumble, and an announcement from Ring of Honor that they are creating a Hall of Fame. You can listen to that episode at Spotify here:
Punk Rock Road Trip
You might not have heard of this podcast yet. This is one that I’ve been in the process of working toward starting up. It is a music podcast where I will be taking a virtual toward of the world through the perspective of the different punk scenes of various cities. It is kind of like Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives but music-based. Each episode will be focused one specific city and will be featuring a different “tour guide” who will talk with me about the city’s punk rock scene. I thought it would be an interesting and kind of unique idea for a music podcast so hopefully you will enjoy it. Anyway, keep your eyes posted as I continue to get this one launched.
I’d also like to give a shout out to a couple of really great podcasts worth listening to.
One Band 5 Songs is a podcast hosted by my friend Dave Brown. On this show, Dave looks at the career of a different band every episode by looking at (typically) 5 songs of theirs that “define” them. This is a really fun show and if you are a music fan of punk and punk adjacent music, this is definitely one worth checking out. You can listen to that podcast exclusively on Spotify here:
The next one I’d like to give a shout out to is the Punk Lotto Pod. This is another podcast that is co-hosted by my Around the Ring co-host Justin and his brother Dylan. On this show, they assign their guests a year who then chooses an album from a band of the punk, hardcore, emo variety that was released that year and they boys talk about that album. It is a really fun concept and another great podcast for music lovers to listen to. You can check that one out on Apple here:
TRACK OF THE WEEK
This is a weird random segment of the newsletter that I thought I’d include and see if it sticks.
This week, there is one particular track that I’ve been listening to quite a bit. It is a song called “Montreal” from the band Captain We’re Sinking. It comes from their 2013 album The Future is Cancelled. Captain We’re Sinking was a band based out of Scranton, Pennsylvania. The band is currently inactive. I can’t remember where I first heard this song. Probably from one of the various mixes that Spotify creates for me. Anyway, it’s a cool little tune that I’ve been listening to quite a bit lately. You can hear it on Bandcamp here:
THIS WEEK’S COMICS HAUL
Not a big haul this week but my comics haul really hasn’t been big lately anyway since I basically only read Star Wars comics right now. As far as new comics that is. Anyway, here are the two new comics that came from my pull list this week:
Star Wars: The High Republic issue #14
Star Wars: Crimson Reign #2 (of 5)
Well, that’s it for this week’s Otter Limits newsletter. I’m still working around with the format on this thing so be patient with me as I work it out and continue to fine tune it. If there is anything else you’d like me to talk about on here, or something on here that you don’t care to read about, let me know.
Birthdays, Relocations, Music, and Comics
Thanks for the shout out!
