Well, it’s been a couple of weeks since I did one of these. A lot has been going on lately. I mentioned in the last issue that I was going to be traveling to Chicago for Scarifcon. That was a lot of fun. I got to meet a bunch of people from the Red 5 Network (the podcast network that Rogue One Radio is a part of). It was cool to finally meet (face to face) with people I’ve been talking to online for years.
I’ve been eating at a bunch of random places over the past couple of weeks so I thought I’d mention a few. While in Chicago (technically, we were in Rosemont) I ate at a pizza place called Moretti’s on Friday evening. Pizza was decent but I actually ordered a meatball sub that was really good. The pizza I ate there came from someone else’s order.
The next morning, a few of us ate at a breakfast place called Tiffany’s. Yes, I had Breakfast at Tiffany’s. LOL. Had an omelette that was really good.
Back up in the local area, we hit up a local Mexican place that was, to say the least, not good. Aftewards, I was told that it was the best Mexican restaurant in the rest so I’m not optimistic about the Mexican food up here. A little more recently, we have had ethnic-based cuisine at a couple other places. We had Indian food at a place called Cumin that was really good. I will definitely be going back to that place. We also had Italian at a place in Grand Rapids called Salvatore’s. I liked it. The marinara sauce was a little on the sweet side but overall the food was good. There are quite a few Italian places in the area so I’ve got a lot more to try out before I decide which one I will return to.
We (and by we I mean my wife, my youngest child, and I) went and saw an AEW wrestling event a few days ago in Grand Rapids. It was both a live taping of Rampage and a taping of Battle of the Belts 3. This was my fourth live AEW event (random Dynamite in Dallas in 2019, All Out in Chicago in 2020, Winter is Coming in Dallas in December 2021 previously). I enjoyed it. I usually do. I’m really looking forward to this year’s All Out in Chicago. The wife will be coming with me on this one. She has never been to Chicago so we are going to go down there for the whole weekend and do touristy stuff. I’m really looking forward to it. Not only because I love Chicago but the wife and I rarely get vacation time by ourselves and this will be a good weekend for the both of us. Here is how close to the ring we were the other night.
Speaking of Chicago, not only will we be going down there on Labor Day weekend for AEW All Out, we will also be returning later in September to attend Riot Fest. That’s going to be fun. I’ve never been to a Chicago Riot Fest. The only one I’ve attended is when the tour came to Dallas back in 2012.
On another note, I started doing some more writing for The Future of the Force lately. Since the move I’ve been lacking in my writing material for those guys so I recently wrote a review of the movie Bullet Train and a review of the first episode of The Sandman (Netflix TV series based on the Nail Gaiman comic book series).
Hmmm…what else? Oh yeah, I finally got around to hooking my Xbox up. So far though, I’ve just been playing Fallout 76. There have been some new updates that have hit the game since I last played so I’ve been wanting to check those out. However, I have to start the game from scratch because I have not played the game since I switched from the Playstation to the Xbox. I will get to the new content eventually.
Rogue One Radio
This week on Rogue One Radio, we were joined by Dani, the host of Comics and Cosmetics. We continued our MCU retrospective series and discussed the 2008 Incredible Hulk film and chatted a bit about the upcoming She-Hulk series. The tunes we played on this episode came from Bring Her, Record Thieves, and Shiva. You can check out the episode on YouTube here:
Radio Unfriendly
Scott and I pushed out another new episode of Radio Unfriendly. On this episode we talked about movies based on music (i.e. biopics, documentaries, fictional bands, etc..). The bands that we played on this episode included Personal and the Pizzas, Mooch Globe, Aldi Ost, Bitter Truth, The Battlebeats, Darling Fire, The Minor Inconveniences, and The Flatliners! Check out the episode on Spotify here:
Dave did another cool episode of One Band 5 Songs recently. He did what he has said is part one of a three part series on Johnny Cash. Check out his Johnny Cash episode on Spotify here:
There were 2 comics that hit my pull list this week. Bounty Hunters #25 and Han Solo and Chewbacca #5,
I recently just finished the 1986 Frank Miller penned Daredevil Born Again story arc. I also finished that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: The Last Ronin book that I had been working on. I’m wanting to finish reading the Paper Girls comics before I start watching the Amazon Prime TV series. I started working on that series but got distracted and started reading The Boys. And I still have other books I’ve started but haven’t finished. I’ll get there eventually.
This week’s song comes from the Toronto, Ontario-based punk band The Flatliners. The Flatliners recently released a new album called New Ruin and this song comes from that album. Enjoy!
That’s all for this week. Have a great week and remember to Be More Kind!
