Happy Friday readers! Welcome back!
There hasn’t really been much going on this week that is really all that interesting enough to talk about in this little introductory blurb. I’m still going to the gym a few times a week.
New Music Friday!
Here is what new albums were released this week that caught my ear:
Laura Jane Grace and the Mississippi Medicals - Give An Inch
City Mouse - So Far Out
Public Opinion - Painted On Smile
If anything else came out this week that didn’t already hit my radar I will post something in my notes about it.
And as promised last week here are my favorite albums that were released in August:
X - Smoke & Fiction
GEL - Persona
Fastbacks - For What Reason
Lovebites - Lovebites EP II
Cowboy Boy - Lipstick on a Pig
Remember to support your local record shop!
Here is what this week’s comic book pull list consisted of:
Exceptional X-Men #1
The Ultimates #4
The Acolyte: Kelnacca #1
I finished Captain America: Stand. Here is some other comic book stuff that I read this week (you are going to see an obvious trend here):
Amazing X-Men (The Age of Apocalypse) by Fabian Nicieza
Astonishing X-Men (The Age of Apocalypse) by Scott Lobdell
X-Men Chronicles (The Age of Apocalypse) by Howard Mackie
X-Calibre (The Age of Apocalypse) by Warren Ellis
Generation Next (The Age of Apocalypse) by Scott Lobdell
Factor X (The Age of Apocalypse) by John Francis Moore
I also finished the audiobook of The Battle of Jedha by George Mann. My next read is going to be A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller.
I watched Alien Romulus in the theater again. I also watched the new Beetlejuice movie. It was fine. Not near as good as the first one. I give it a solid C. The only other movie coming out this month that I have been thinking of watching is Transformers One.
Outside of movies, I have been rewatching Star Wars Rebels in preparation for a discussion series about it that we will be doing next month on Rebel Rock Radio.
Star Wars Outlaws was released last week so I have been playing a lot of that lately. I have about 20 hours in it but I’m not really sure how much of an indicator of progress that is. I generally don’t follow the whole how many hours do you have thing. Anyway, I like the game. I’m enjoying it.
I played D&D with the Red 5 Tavern last Friday. You can watch that session here:
The only new place that I ate this past week was a gyro place called Gyro Hero here in Norman. I liked it. I would return.
The English Premier League has started up again. As of this writing, here are the top 5 clubs in the tables (standings):
Manchester City
Liverpool (Go LFC!)
Brighton
Arsenal
Newcastle
For those keeping track as I have been, the Chicago White Sox are still doing very poorly. They actually managed to win a game this win so that is something.
We are just a few weeks away from the start of hockey (NHL) season. In fact, there are only 27 days left until the start of the new season.
This week on Rebel Rock Radio, we talked about the powers and abilities of a Jedi, including different forms of lightsaber combat and we played tunes from Early Riser, The Black Pacific, and No Guidance.
I also dropped a new episode of Radio Unfriendly earlier this week. I covered my favorite albums from the Chicago band Smoking Popes.
Track of the Week
This week’s track of the week comes from an album that was released that month that I didn’t hear about until this morning. A friend recommended it to me. It is the opening track from Wexford’s Silent Key album.
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend kids!
