Hello readers. If you’re a regular reader you might notice a couple of changes. If you’re new, welcome to The Otter Limits!
Well, we got through another year relatively unscathed.
Before we get things started, I would like to address something regarding the platform on which you are reading this. I try to stay away from mentioning anything of a political nature in this newsletter but I can’t be silent on this. In the latest issue of his newsletter, Kevin Gentilcore announced that he is leaving the platform because the co-founder of the organization is okay with nazis on the platform.
First off, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT support Nazis. I think they are vile and person or group of people that advocate for any kind of hate are the most disgusting creatures on earth. I completely support Kevin for leaving the platform and holding strong to his views. However, where does that leave me?
There are 2 options:
(1) I leave like Kevin did and find another platform for my goofy random nonsense or,
(2) I stay on the platform and be a positive voice and attempt to drown out the dark side with the light side.
What do you think? Should I stay or should I go? Let me know what you think by commenting on here or you can email me at otter272@gmail.com.
Okay, enough of that.
Not a lot has really happened over the course of the week. I went back to work after being off since before Xmas. I’ve been doing some more reading (just comic books for now) and some more watching of TV shows. Yeah, not a lot going on. Oh, I did recently make the decision to go back to school and get a masters. I’m not very far in the process though. I picked out a school, applied to said school, contacted the school where I got my bachelors and requested that they send my transcript to the new school, and updated my FAFSA stuff so that my new school would have that information on file. The program that I’m planning on getting into doesn’t start until mid-March so I have a little more time to get all the pre-enrollment stuff out of the way.
That’s really it. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Track of the Week
I did another live stream of Rebel Rock Radio on Tuesday. JD and I were joined by former RRR host DJ and we talked about our favorite movies of 2023. Music on this episode was from The Mistons, Cadet Carter, and Raisin Awareness. Check out the replay of the video below or listen to the audio on the various platforms by visiting rebelrockradio.com.
Dave pumped out another episode of One Band 5 Songs. This time around, he covered the career of Chicago-based punk band Pegboy. Check it out on Spotify below:
Here’s the first of two new segments for you. I’m going to talk about food. Generally speaking, I would like to use this part of my forum to talk about new places that I have tried so that’s what I’m doing this time around.
Last weekend, we went to a steakhouse we had never been to but had heard of a few times and also read about them. We never bothered to go previously because it is about 2 hours away from us. It was in a small town in northern Oklahoma. Anyway, we decided to go check it out. It was good. I’m not 100% certain it was drive for 2 hours good but it was good. I had a porterhouse steak (see image below). The steak was tasty. I kind of had high expectations of this place going in of course. I wasn’t necessarily disappointed but there were a few things that I wish were, better I guess. For instance, I had read about how huge the salad bar was at this place. When we first got there and were being seated, I saw the salad bar. Not really that impressive. At least not to the extent that I was expecting. Overall, it was a good place to eat but again, I wouldn’t drive 2 hours just to eat there.
If you are wondering why I am not using the name of the restaurant, it is because I’m not going to bother giving anybody free advertising here. If you want to know the name of the place, email me at otter272@gmail.com or send me a message on my Instagram.
Not much to update on this end. I still haven’t gotten around to replacing my controller. I did, however, make an attempt at playing Starfield again but that experience was not the best due to the worsening stick drift.
In other gaming news, I found an update from Fantasy Flight Games on the release of their upcoming Star Wars Unlimited trading card game. It is set to released globally on March 8th. Speaking of Star Wars games, no update on the release date for the Star Wars Outlaws video game. Bummer.
This past weekend, my band (Get Fired) had our first rehearsal with the new guitar player. We are back to being a two guitar band again. I’m really happy with the way everything is sounding and I can’t wait for you all to hear the material too. In addition to getting the new guitar player up to speed, we are starting preparations to record our next release which, hopefully, will be a full length instead of an EP. We have picked out the studio that we are going to use and we have a working list of songs that we want to record.
This segment used to be called Movie Stuff and I’d tell you what movies I watched over the week. I decided to add TV shows that I’ve watched or ones I’m currently watching.
This wee, I have started working on getting caught up on some TV shows that I’m behind on. So far this week, I have finished Star Wars Visions season 2 (finally), season 2 of What If?, and season 2 of Loki. I have also gotten started on season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and season 2 of Invincible.
I wrote a review of Snyder’s Rebel Moon movie for Future of the Force this week. You can check that review out here.
I also wrote a review of Godzilla Minus One over there. Check that one out here.
First off, here is this week’s pull list:
Batman #141
Darth Vader #42
I’ve been reading a lot of single issue comics this week in an effort to get caught up. I’ve gotten caught up on the current Darth Vader and the current Doctor Aphra series.
Other than that, I have read some collections that are worthy of mentioning.
Supergirl: Being Super by Mariko Tamaki, with artwork by Joelle Jones is a pretty incredible book. Loved the story. Loved the artwork. All around a great book. I seem to remember really liking some stuff that of Mariko’s that I’ve read previously but I can’t remember what it was. In any case, I really enjoyed her take on the Supergirl origin.
Speaking of Supergirl: Being Super, I wrote a review of this book for Future of the Force. You can check out that review here.
A couple of other Supergirl books that I’ve either already started or will be starting soon are Supergirl Vol 1: The Girl of Steel by Jeph Loeb and Supergirl: Book One by Peter David.
Superman Vol 1: Supercorp by Joshua Williamson. I remember reading the issue #1 last year and enjoying it. Unfortunately, the story seems to have gone downhill since that first issue.
Here is the second new segment. I’m not really sure where I’m going with this one. I actually don’t watch a lot of sports and really only follow hockey (and sometimes baseball). I’ll give this new segment a try out and see how it works out.
As I alluded to, I like hockey. My two favorite teams are Chicago (Blackhawks) and Dallas (Stars). I also like Seattle (Kraken) but I don’t follow them nearly as close as the other two.
Interestingly enough, this past weekend, the Chicago Blackhawks were playing against the Dallas Stars in Dallas. I had thought about going down there to catch a game but by the time I had made up my mind to get tickets, the prices were far too high for my taste. The Dallas Stars won both games. On the 29th, they won 5-4 so it wasn’t a horrible loss for the Blackhawks. The game on the 31st, however, was a brutal loss. The final score was 8-1. Just sad.
While I was looking at the current standings, I noticed that most of the teams that I follow are in the Western conference. If you are curious, the teams that I follow (other than the Blackhawks and the Stars) are Colorado, Vancouver, Seattle, and the Red Wings.
Oklahoma City does not have a hockey team. They used to. When I first moved back from Seattle, there was a team that I saw a few times called the Barons. That team closed up shop after a few years. I found out recently (I’m not sure why I didn’t already know this) that Tulsa has a hockey team called the Oilers. They are part of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) which I find strange because we are not on the east coast. The ECHL is a tier under the American Hockey League (AHL) which is the developmental league for the NHL.
Hockey is not the only sport that I follow though. As I said, I sometimes follow baseball but I also follow (from time to time) some futbol (or as us Americans call it soccer). Oklahoma City used to have a soccer team called OKC Energy. I was even a season ticket holder for this team. They were a part of the United Soccer League (USL) which is a Division II league. I think, technically, the team hasn’t closed up show but they haven’t played since 2021. There is some sort of problem with the stadium they were playing at and the city government is still trying to find a site for a new stadium. Until then, they will continue not to play. The Major League Soccer (MLS) season starts in February so I might start following that. I will either follow the Seattle Sounders or the Chicago Fire. Or both. Not sure yet. I’ve never followed MLS before.
Again, I’m not really sure what I’m going to do with this segment but I figured I’d mess around with it and see where it goes.
This week’s track comes from Dublin based garage rock band Sprints. They just put out a new album today called Letter to Self and the track comes from that album. Enjoy.
That’s it for this week. I will either see you on here next week or I won’t. Have a great week and remember FUCK NAZIS and remember to BE MORE KIND!
