Hi folks. I lied. I decided to go ahead and post one more of these for the end of the new year.
So the Xmas holiday is over and we have another year until we have to deal with it. A new year is just days away. Will it be better? Will it be worse? Who knows. I guess it depends on your own perspective. It will be an election year so there’s that. Again though...worse or better?
But 2023. What a year. I started out the year in Michigan and moved (back) to Oklahoma. I got my band Get Fired back together and we’ve played one show. I’ve got the same job. There hasn’t really been any massive changes for me this year other than the move really. I really don’t know what 2024 has in store for me and my family.
Are you planning on making any resolutions for the new year? I’m not per se. There are some things that I’d like to try and do this year but I’m not sure that I’d call them resolutions. Maybe they are. Maybe I’m just playing semantics. I want to try and read more (I missed my reading goal for the 2023 by 13 books). I want to try and get more episodes of Radio Unfriendly out there. I have some minor educational goals. I’m not sure what else. I seem to remember some other stuff but I’m blanking on it right now.
I’m thinking of adding another segment on here about food. With this segment I would talk about any new food places that I’ve visited throughout the week. If I don’t visit any I’ll either figure out something else to talk about or I just won’t do the segment. I dunno. What do you think?
Okay, let’s do this thing.

Track of the Week
Rebel Rock Radio did not air this week. We are on a holiday hiatus. However, if you would like to check out a previous episode, go to our YouTube channel for videos or for audio check out Apple or Spotify.
However, Cameron and I recorded another episode of Radio Unfriendly. We talked about my favorite records of 2023. We only talked about mine because he hasn’t been listening to much new music this year and most of the new music he has listened to was stuff that I recommended to him. Check it out on the various audio platforms at radiounfriendly.com!
The Let’s Play Ten podcast put out a new episode this week also. They played tunes and talked about their top ten releases of the year. You can check it out on Spotify below:
I haven’t really been playing much this week. Mostly because I need a new controller for my Xbox. The controller still technically works for the most part but there are some things I’m having trouble with because of some bad stick drift. I don’t think I’m going to bother playing much until I get a replacement.
I did get a new board game for Xmas. Well, sort of new. I got the Unfinished Business expansion for the Outer Rim board game. I haven’t played that game in a while, mostly because I haven’t found anybody that will play the game with me. Hopefully I’ll find somebody soon.
As for the game itself, long story short, it is a game where you play one of several scum and villainy type characters (bounty hunters, smugglers, outlaws, etc..) and jump around the bounty trying to complete jobs. It’s a pretty fun game. I first played it at Star Wars Celebration 2019 prior to its official release. I play tested it at the Fantasy Flight booth.
Not really a lot to talk about in terms of music this week. If you haven’t already, make sure you check out my Top 20 Albums of 2023 and my Honorable Mentions.
Also, make sure that you spend some time listening to some new music. Find some bands that you’ve never heard of and give them a chance. And make sure you are supporting local music in your area by going to local shows. Those people aren’t doing this stuff for their health!
I watched quite a few movies over the week but most of them were either Xmas movies or just random stuff that I felt like rewatching. However, I did hit the theater more than once this week.
Wonka - I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I originally had not planned to go see it but ultimately decided to check it out. I went into with low expectations so it didn’t disappoint. It was fun.
The Iron Claw - Wife and I are pro wrestling fans so we went and checked out this biopic of the Von Erich family on Xmas evening. She liked it more than I did. It was fine. It was okay. The story was decent. I, however, did not think that the casting was right and I did not care for the acting.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - I had absolutely no intention of watching this movie. I did not care about the first one. I do not care for Jason Momoa as Aquaman (he just doesn’t scream Aquaman to me). But for some reason, last night, I got the urge to go see a movie and didn’t feel like driving very far and the only thing playing (it was later at night) at my local theater was this one. So my youngest kid and I went into with very low expectations. I was not disappointed. Because of my low expectations. I dunno. I wouldn’t bother unless you really want to see if or if you really like Momoa in the role. Make your own choice.
Speaking of movies, I wrote my Top 10 favorite movies of 2023 for The Future of the Force and it was published this morning. Check it out here.
Nothing on my pull list this week. I have, however, been trying to hit the comic book reading hard lately. Not as much as I’d like but I’m making the effort. I finished that Detective Comics book (Gotham Nocturne: Overture) by Ram V and I read a book called X-Men Origins (various writers). I picked up some books at the library a couple of days ago also.
If you really want to see what I’ve been reading, check out my Goodreads.
For this last issue of the year, I thought I’d post a list of the top tracks that I listened to this year (according to Last.fm). Here is the top 10.
That’s it for this week! See you next year and remember to BE MORE KIND!
