Welcome back readers!
Unless you haven’t been paying attention this week, there was some bad news earlier this week. The iconic actor that was the voice of Darth Vader has passed. James Earl Jones was not just the voice of Vader of course. He was the voice of Mufasa from The Lion King and played many many other roles. He was an award winning actor of film, television, and theater and he will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Lord Vader!
I also wanted to share one of my favorite non Darth Vader moments from him. It comes from the TV show The Big Bang Theory.
Okay, enough sadness. It’s time for New Music Friday!
Here are some albums that came out this week that I found of interest:
The Jesus Lizard - Rack
Go Betty Go - Black & Blue
Berthold City - Where Did We Go Wrong?
Bad Moves - Wearing Out the Refrain
Nada Surf - Moon Mirror
As always, if anything else pops up that I missed, I will update in my Substack Notes.
This week’s comic book pull list consisted of the following:
Wolverine #1
Uncanny X-Men #2
Star Wars Inquisitors #3
I also had a copy of Star Wars Vol 8: The Sith and the Skywalker (a collection of issues 42-45) on preorder and that came in.
I also finished my re-read of the Age of Apocalypse saga by reading Weapon X, Gambit and the X-Ternals, X-Men, X-Universe, and X-Men: Omega.
Other comic books reads this week included:
The Domain #1 by Chip Zdarsky
Red Before Black #1 by Stephanie Phillips
The Department of Truth Vol. 1: The End of the World by James Tynion IV (re-read)
Bully Wars #1 by Skottie Young
Middlewest #1 by Skottie Young
I started X-Men: Second Coming but I have not finished it.
As far as other reading goes, in my case listening to audiobooks, I started the book A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller. I think I might have mentioned last week that I was going to start reading that. Anyway, I started it.
I did not go to the theater this week. There was nothing new that came out and there was nothing that I really wanted to go and re-watch. Transformers One comes out next week I think so I will probably go see that.
I played a lot of Star Wars Outlaws last weekend but did not play any after Sunday. I just had other things going on. I will probably play some more this weekend.
In other gaming news, Rebel Rock Radio hosted its first Star Wars RPG session with me as the GM. We are playing a campaign of my own design called Twilight of Viconta. We recorded the session but unless you are a patron of Rebel Rock Radio, you will not be able to see it. So…if you are interested in checking it out, you can be a patron for ONLY $2 a month!
Check out episode one of Twilight of Viconta here!
Speaking of Rebel Rock Radio, on our regularly scheduled episode, we discussed the history and origins of the Sith and played tunes from Fervents, Prime Directive, and Fightmilk.
I specifically said our regularly scheduled episode because we also did an impromptu live video on Monday where we did a tribute to the late great Jame Earl Jones.
My friend Dave dropped an episode of One Band 5 Songs about The Offspring. His co-host for this episode was Justin Hensley of Punk Lotto Pod.
Speaking of Punk Lotto Pod, they put out an episode about the 2001 Propagandhi album Today’s Empires Tomorrow’s Ashes.
The NFL season has started. I’m not a huge fan but I will keep track of how the Seahawks and the Bears are doing. Both teams won their first games of the regular season so I guess that’s good. The Seahawks beat the Broncos and the Bears beat the Titans.
In other sports news, Liverpool FC is still in 2nd place in the EPL standings and the Chicago White Sox are still dead last in the Major League Baseball standings.
On a brighter note, as of this writing, there are only 20 days left until the start of the new hockey season!
Here in the Oklahoma City metro area (I'm including Norman in that metro area even though it is only kinda part of that area) there is a chain of family owned mexican restaurants (to my knowledge there aren't any outside of OKC). Anyway, the one that is here in Norman we really like. We go there often. We went to one that is actually in OKC a few months ago and it was pretty good too. However, over the weekend, I was in Midwest City visiting my mom and we went to the one there. It was horrible! That place shouldn't even be using the name! I will never darken the doorstep of that place again.
Track of the Week
For this week’s track I felt like posting a song from RVIVR. This one is from their 2010 self-titled album.
And in case you are concerned that there was no cat picture this week, it is because of the sad news of James Earl Jones’ passing but here’s a picture of Leia and Max cuddling together for you.
That’s it for this week folks. Have a great rest of your Friday and a great weekend.
Norman is absolutely part of the OKC Metro Area.
