Here we are again readers! Hope you had a great week.
Not a lot happened over the week other than the normal stuff I do. Podcasting, playing video games (mostly Cyberpunk 2077 again this week), listening to music, etc.. I had a job interview on Friday morning. I have not heard back from them yet but I am really hoping that this job interview will be my last.
Do you own a lot of band t-shirts? I used to. Most of them I either outgrew (that is, I got too fat for them) or they wound up with too many holes and had to be thrown away. Some I might have just misplaced or accidentally donated during one of our many relocations. Currently, I only own a handful. Off the top of my head I have a band t-shirt for Iron Chic, Nothington, Pixies, Motorhead, The Menzingers (of which I own two) and Johnny Cash. I also have a Riot Fest t-shirt which doesn’t really count as a band t-shirt but it’s close. I might have a couple more but those are the only ones I can think of right now. Most of my t-shirts are nerd related, mostly Star Wars.
Anything else I have to talk about in this issue is in the segments below.
Enjoy.
There were a couple of new releases from last week that I thought were interesting enough to mention.
Chicago based indie rock band Horsegirl released Phonetics On and On on Matador Records.
Berlin, Germany based indie/shoegaze artist Thala released Avalanche.
Orange County, CA based ska punk band released Eat This via Consigliere Records.
Bitter Truth, a hardcore punk band out of Grand Rapids released a self-titled EP on Setterwind Records. When I lived up in the GR area, I met with one of the guys from this band. Good guy.
Oddly, which, according to their Bandcamp page, is an odd rock band from Kyoto, Japan, released Swerve. They are an indie rock/shoegaze sort of thing.
And here is what I listened to the most last week (according to Lastfm) in regards to artists.
Oh yeah, I also put out another Cover to Cover on Radio Unfriendly. This time I talked about the song “About A Girl” which was originally recorded by Nirvana.
Last week’s comic book pull list consisted of 3 titles.
Absolute Batman #5
Green Lantern Corps #1
Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #10
Outside of single issues (just random stuff I’ve been reading) I read Nocterra Vol. 3: No Brakes by Scott Snyder.
I have seen Captain America: Brave New World in the theater twice so far. Needless to say I enjoyed it. I don’t think it is as good as Winter Soldier and there are a few minor flaws in the movie (in my opinion) but overall, I thought it was a really good one.
I haven’t really read many opinions about the movie on social media so far. I imagine there are probably a good chunk of folks that didn’t like it and that is fine if they didn’t. It is probably not everybody’s cup of tea. I tend to find myself not in agreement with a lot of people on social media about movies in general anyway. I was really looking forward to this movie quite a bit but at the same time I would not say that I had super high expectations for it. Considering that, generally speaking, a lot of the MCU stuff that has come out since Endgame has not been stellar. I was just looking forward to it because of two things. First, in the overall grand scheme of the MCU, I am of the opinion that the Captain America series is the best franchise within the franchise (for lack of a better term). That is, when compared to other MCU movies that had multiple entries (for example, Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man, etc…), I think the Captain America movies are the best ones. Also, and I might have mentioned them somewhere in the newsletter as some point in time already, but out of all of the MCU TV shows, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was my favorite so I knew that I was going to enjoy seeing Sam Wilson as Captain America. When I think about it, out of all of the characters in the MCU, he (Wilson) might be one of my favorites. I thought he was great at Falcon and I like him as Captain America.
Last week, we announced a big change in the podcast. We have been thinking for quite a while that since we stopped playing music on the show (this happened several months ago) we didn’t want to have the word “rock” in the name of our podcast. So, after thinking it over, and going through several different options, we finally agreed on Rebel Nerd Radio. On last week’s episode, we talked about the film The Fellowship of the Ring.
I did another episode with Spencer on The Comic Den. We talked about Green Lantern Corps #1 and had a short spoiler free discussion about the new Captain America movie.
The guys from Let’s Play Ten dropped another episode last week. They played some good stuff on there.
This song is a single that popped up on my Spotify release radar. It’s from a band based out of New Zealand.
That’s it for this week. Check back next week for more gibberish.
So he's the guy we saw in Black Adam? I didn't know that. I haven't seen any of the Captain America movies
