Hey there readers. How has your week been?
Our coffee maker broke again this morning. We bought this new coffee maker a few months ago and, fairly recently, it broke. We called the manufacturer because it was still under warranty and they replaced it for us. And then this morning, it stopped working again. I’m never buying a coffee maker from this band again. Fuck these guys. We’ve only had the replacement for, maybe, two weeks.
First world problems right? The broken life I live.
I mean really, there are worse problems in the world. War, famine, poverty, the idea that Donald Trump could be president again. All horrible world problems. But here I am bitching about my coffee maker.
PODCAST STUFF
This week on Rebel Rock Radio, we talked about seafood, the MCU, and finally got around to talking about our “advertised” topic which was season 2 of The Bad Batch. This week’s episode featured music from Dead Years, Whores, and Corker! Replay of YouTube live stream below and can be found on our audio platforms at rebelrockradio.com.
Also on Rebel Rock Radio this week, we pushed out a special episode to celebrate Star Wars Podcast Day. Here’s the YouTube:
Additionally, I started up a new music podcast called Pure Rank. On this podcast, I pick a musical artist and rank my top 5 albums of theirs. On my first episode, I chose one of my favorite bands Bad Religion. You can check out the first podcast on Apple here:
Dave put out another episode of One Band 5 Songs. This week, he covered the music of The Police. Check it out on Spotify!
MUSIC STUFF
So the Grammy Awards happened over the week. To be completely blunt, I couldn’t give two shits about the Grammy Awards but I was curious to know what sort of stuff won this year (mostly to prove that I’m completely out of touch with “popular” music). So here we go:
Record of the Year: “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus. Never heard it. Also, I need to ask, why is the “Record” of the year just one song? Why don’t they just call it Song of the Year?
Album of the Year: Midnights by Taylor Swift. Again, never heard it. Not a fan of her music.
Song of the Year: “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell. Okay, this category is song of the year. So what the hell is the difference between Record of the Year and Song of the Year? This makes absolutely no damn sense.
So I looked it up because it was bothering me. “Record” of the year goes to the performing artist, producer, recording engineer or mixer for a song while the “Song” of the Year goes to the person that actually wrote the song.
Anyway, that is this year’s Grammy Awards and I will repeat myself. I couldn’t give two shits.
Also, the new Jesus and Mary Chain album was supposed to come out today but low and behold this morning I find out that the release date has been pushed back to next month. Goddamnit. If it’s not one thing it’s another. LOL. Again with the first world problems.
READING STUFF
This week’s comic book pull list consisted of only one book. It was Batman #142.
As I mentioned last week, I started a deep dive into the Daredevil comic book series. So far this week I’ve finished the Kevin Smith run (Guardian Devil) and the David Mack run (Parts of a Hole) and started the Brian Michael Bendis run.
GAMING STUFF
I went to the game shop again this week. I did not, however, play the Star Trek RPG that I had been playing. This week, I jumped into another game they’ve been running up there on Monday nights. It is called Vast Grimm. Vast Grimm is a rule light RPG along the same lines as Mork Borg and Pirate Borg. Essentially, it is the same system only it is a sci-fi/space faring type game. It was a lot of fun. My first character died of course but I had a blast playing it.
FOOD STUFF
Have I ever mentioned how much I like seafood? Just in case I haven’t. I really like seafood. Unfortunately, I live in a landlocked state so the seafood isn’t really fresh. Outside of your common Red Lobsters and Long John Silvers, there are only a few places that have good seafood. Hang on, let me rephrase. I am not saying that RL and LJS are good seafood. I am not a fan of Red Lobster. I did go there a couple of months ago but only because I actually like their cheddar biscuits. Only recently did I discover that you can make those at home with a mix you can buy at the store. And while Long John’s isn’t great, it isn’t horrible but I also wouldn’t call it good seafood. It is maybe one step up on buying frozen fish fillets at the grocery store. There are a couple of those crab boil places in the area and those are good. I do love me some carb. My favorite of them though is the one that is right here in Norman. It is called Dancing Crab. While the food is really good, it is also less expensive than some of the other crab boil places. I went there for my birthday last Friday. I like it there. If you’re ever in the Norman Oklahoma area for some reason, go check it out.
STUFF I WATCHED
Argylle - Saw this one over last weekend at the theater. It was fun. It had a few parts that were kind of dumb but overall, it was a fun movie. I would recommend it.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004) - This is one of those movies that I kept meaning to see but never got around to it. Well, I finally got around to it. I watched it on one of the streaming services. It was decent.
Lisa Frankenstein - I saw this one at the theater last night. It was there. I went into this movie completely blind. I’d never seen a trailer and hadn’t heard or read anything about it. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t really good either. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone but I also, if someone really wanted to see it, I wouldn’t try and talk them out of it.
Earlier in the week I was rewatching season 2 of The Bad Batch in preparation for this week’s episode of Rebel Rock Radio. I also started a rewatch of the TV series Daredevil.
TRACK OF THE WEEK
This week’s track is the opening track from the new Mean Jean’s album Blasted. It’s got a great title. The song that is. Enjoy.
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and remember to BE MORE KIND!
Hah, okay, I need to hear more about Lisa Frankenstein. I haven't seen it and I absolutely don't feel one way or the other, but I've heard a lot of good things so I'm wondering why it was so bad.
