It’s Saturday again. Somehow, you have drifted into the Otter Limits. Whether you’re here by accident or came here on purpose I welcome you.
It’s been a rough week for me. Mentally that is. Nothing new really. Just still in a bad head space about the employment situation. It’s been about 8 months and I haven’t been able to find anything. I mean, except for the hell hole that is the call center. Last week, I mentioned I was going to start looking into going back to school for cybersecurity. Wait. Did I mention that? Now I can’t remember. It’s been a week and my memory is shit. I told somebody I know that. Anyway, I looked into it. I found a school that had a good program but then I found out how much it cost. It’s not in the budget right now so I’m in a holding pattern on all of that. I’m back to just doing a deep dive into other employment options. Something - anything - to get me out of the call center. If you’ve ever worked in a call center you probably understand. Call center employment is a special kind of hell. Especially for someone who, hmmm…..how do I put this…fuck it, I’ll just say it. For someone that is overqualified for that type of work. I know I shouldn’t be bitching about this so much. There are a lot of people out there with no work at all. I get it. I’m trying not to be so depressed about it but I can’t help it. I am. It’s been a rough mental week.
Other than that, the “baby” cats had a birthday this past week. They are 3 years old now. That picture above is when they were still babies. Princess Leia has a birthday coming up this month too.
Okay, I’m done whining. Let’s get on with this.
There wasn’t much that came out this week as far as new music releases. Here are a couple that I ran across.
Flatwaves, an alternative band based out of Philadelphia released Tell Me Secrets through Abandon Everything Records. I can’t remember ever having heard of this band previously so I don’t even remember how I came across the album. Maybe through one of the multiple public relations emails that I get throughout the week? Anyway, it’s good I think.
Another band that I’ve never heard of put out an album titled The Villain. Again, don’t know how I came across this one. Anyway, it’s from Los Angeles based Mal Blum. It was released by Get Better Records.
How about another list? Here’s a few of my favorite records that have been released this year so far. This is absolutely not definitive and could change by the time we get to the end of the year but these are the 2025 that stand out to me right now. These are not ranked. I think I’ll just put them in chronological order by date of release.
Zombiesuckers - Captain Morgue and His Deadbeats
Ex-Void - In Love Again
Bite Me Bambi - Eat This
The Roxies - Keep You Up At Night
Bob Mould - Here We Go Crazy
Dead Bars - All Dead Bars Go to Heaven
Smoking Popes - Lovely Stuff
Melvins - Thunderball
Propagandhi - At Peace
Dropkick Murphys - For the People
Here is some stuff that I’ve read this week. There is a trend.
Superman: Brainiac by Geoff Johns
Superman: Up in the Sky by Tom King
And here’s my pull list from this week:
Absolute Superman #9 by Jason Aaron
Batman and Robin #23 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson
Uncanny X-Men #17 by Gail Simone
Supergirl #3 by Sophie Campbell
Fantastic Four #1 by Ryan North
This week I went to the theater to see the movie that I have been waiting over 2 years to see. James Gunns’ Superman. I am not going to say anything about it to avoid spoilers other than to say that it was absolutely amazing! Thank you Mr. Gunn.
This week on Rebel Nerd Radio we talked about the final story arc of the final season of The Clone Wars. We also talked about Star Wars costuming.
Another episode of The Comic Den hit. On this one, Spencer and I shared our thoughts about the Superman comic Secret Origin by Geoff Johns.
Punk Lotto Pod gave us a new episode this week too. Dave Brown filled in for Dylan this time around and they talked about the 1988 Living Colour album Vivid.
It returns! Do you remember this song?
Well, that’s all I have for you this week. Enjoy your weekend.
Sending you good luck and best wishes from the UK. As for lists, Bob Mould’s definitely on mine, with Ex Void and Melvins in the maybe pile.
I saw this on Facebook today. Maybe worth a look? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLBStga4Pc8
