Our kittens Andor and Poppy just had their birthday. They are two years old now. Here are some photos of when they were babies.
And here are some more recent pictures of them.
Why do you care? Well, you probably don’t. But this is my newsletter and you will read
EVERY DAMN WORD THAT I HAVE TO SAY!!!!
Hahahah. Just kidding. If you are new here, I talk about my cats a lot. So get used to it.
On another note, do you remember mixtapes? Are you old enough to remember mixtapes? If you are old like me you might remember making them. Or receiving one. Mixtapes were collections of various songs that you might have recorded on your tape player. Sometimes they were recorded from the radio and sometimes they were just copies from other cassette tapes. Sometimes they had a theme. Like breaking up from a relationship or songs that get you pumped. Other times they were just a random collection of tunes. I guess at some point they became mix CDs also. Personally I didn’t make mix CDs all that often. Definitely not nearly as much as I did on cassettes. I actually kind of miss cassettes. They took up less room. Although, the artwork and liner notes were easier to see on CDs. Anyway, back to mixtapes. Did you make them? I sure did. I made a lot.
These days mixtapes have been replaced by……if you guessed playlists you are correct. I’m sure that everyone on the streaming platforms have playlists set up. Honestly, I only use 3 streaming platforms and out of those 3 only 2 of them allow playlist creation. I know that there are other streaming platforms that I don’t use so if they allow playlists I wouldn’t know. Anyway, the BIG two allow playlists and I have playlists on both of them. Some of them are duplicates. That is, I have the same playlists set up on both of them. Some of them are specific though. But anyway…playlists. They basically serve the same function as mixtapes but since they are on the internet they are available for practically everyone to hear.
Here are some of the playlists of mine that I listen to most frequently:
Sounds of 2024 - this is a playlist I use to curate the new releases of the year that have caught my ear.
Radio WOTR - this is a very random playlist of just random stuff that I put together.
Steve’s Stoner Sludge Doom Attack - as the title of this playlist suggests, this is a bunch of songs of the sludge metal/stoom doom/stoner rock variety for when I’m in that kind of mood.
Punk Rock Tuesday - this one is just a bunch of stuff by random punk rock bands that I am always adding to.
Parks and Recreation Playlist - this is a bunch of stuff that at some point in time was played on the show Parks and Recreation
Steve’s Mega Metal Tunes - if you can’t guess what’s on this one I don’t know what to tell you.
How about you share some of your playlists with me?
Ok, enough of that. Let’s get started.
This week on Rebel Rock Radio we were joined by the crew of Yap Sesh to talk about the 6th episode of the Star Wars show The Acolyte. The tunes that we played on this episode came from Problem Patterns, Arms & Hearts, and Halfway to Neptune.
Last week I mentioned that I would have a new episode of Radio Unfriendly out soon and I was right. The new episode was about the southern California band Lagwagon.
I was a guest on Dave’s newest episode of One Band 5 Songs where he covered the music of Bad Religion.
Justin and Dylan over at Punk Lotto Pod dropped a new episode this week. This is one that I “sponsored.” They covered the 1994 Melvins album Stoner Witch.
New Music Friday
This week was really slow music week musically speaking. Only one album was released today that really caught my ear. It was the new Down By Law album Crazy Days. Down By Law is a punk band fronted by former ALL singer Dave Smalley. Crazy Days is their first album since 2021s Lonely Town.
Here is this week’s comic book pull list:
X-Men #1
The Ultimates #2
Ahsoka #1
Here are the books that I finished this week:
The High Republic Vol. 3: Jedi’s End (comic trade paperback)
Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: Tales of the Jedi Vol. 1 - I started this one in 2022 and totally forgot about it. It is a collection that includes the Dawn of the Jedi series.
The Living Force by John Jackson Miller (audiobook)
Crimson Climb by EK Johnston (audiobook)
Currently, I’m taking another stab at the audiobook for The Fallen Star. As of this writing, I have gotten further with it than I did on my previous attempt. I’m actually about halfway through it. So I might actually finish it this time.
I did not play the Star Wars RPG this week for reasons. However, I do have some more thoughts on the online Star Wars RPG that I’m going to run. Gaming wise, I’ve just been playing Fallout 76 so really nothing to update you on this week. I think I’m going to be playing D&D with the Red 5 Tavern this week.
The only movie that I saw in the theater this week was Despicable Me 4. I went to the theater and saw this one with my youngest kid. It was dumb fun. I’ve seen all of the other ones. Just dumb and goofy but in a good way of course. There was a character from an earlier film that made a cameo in this one and I thought that was pretty cool.
TRACK OF THE WEEK
This week’s track is an old one. It is the song “Berkeley Pier” by Tilt from their 1995 album Til It Kills. Enjoy.
That’s it for this week kids. Have a good weekend. Thanks for reading.
