Opinions Are Like A-Holes...and Kitty Kats
Issue #17: Toxic fandoms
Why can’t people just enjoy things anymore? It’s become increasingly difficult to just be a fan of something without someone else attacking you or your opinion about a fandom. You can’t just like something without having to defend why you like it or having a third alarm raging argument with someone that doesn’t like it and thinks you are the devil (or a nazi) because you like it. Everybody has an opinion and everybody has an opinion about your opinion.
For instance, I like Star Wars. Why can’t I have a civil discussion about Star Wars with another person that likes Star Wars? Why does politics have to get involved? Let’s just talk about Star Wars for crying out loud! I don’t care about your politics. Along the same lines, not all Star Wars fans like the same stuff and that is fine. Some people didn’t like, for example, The Last Jedi. Some people didn’t like The Rise of Skywalker. Some people didn’t like the Book of Boba Fett. That is fine. You don’t HAVE to like it all. But in the end, you are still a Star Wars fan and that is what brings the community together. Why do people have to tear it apart?
Professional wrestling is another example. Some people like WWE. Some people like AEW. Some people like Impact Wrestling. Etc. Etc. But they are all fans of professional wrestling. Why can’t they all agree that they like professional wrestling and NOT shit on the fans of other promotions? Just like what you like and let the others like what they like and leave it at that.
If you like something that I don’t like, that is fine. It doesn’t bother me that you like it and I’m not going to bully you or talk trash about you or your opinion just because I might not like it. I would expect the same courtesy from you. Well, perhaps expect is pushing it. I would HOPE for the same courtesy.
No fandom is sacred and social media, obviously, is the culprit. More often than not, people say things to others on social media that they would never say to them to their face.
Am I saying social media is bad? No. I enjoy social media. I have some really great conversations with people on the various social media platforms that I frequent. And for the most part I have gotten to the point where I can ignore the negativity.
I just wish people of various fandoms could get along.
And here are some pictures of my kitty kats that were taken by my wife.
This list came at the suggest of my friend Justin (sort of). Here’s my top 5 favorite snack foods. Because I’m diabetic, I don’t really eat sweets so I’ve more or less restricted this list to salty type of snack foods.
Popcorn - I eat the heck out of some popcorn. And not just at the movies. Although, when I’m at the movies, I can’t NOT eat popcorn. It’s just part of the experience. But yeah, I eat quite a bit of popcorn at home too. More often than not, it turns out to be microwave popcorn but I prefer to make my own. I use this thing called a Whirly Pop to make my popcorn. Look it up, it’s pretty cool.
Taco Flavored Doritos - This particular flavor of Doritos is hard to find. I’m not even sure if they make it anymore. Or, this could be one of those things that they only carry for a limited time every now and then. I don’t know. It has been a while since I have had any of these but they are my favorite flavor of Doritos. Makes sense considering my love of tacos in general.
Sour Cream and Onion Lays - I was going back and forth on this one to decide if I liked these better than barbeque Lays and ultimately this one won out. As far as actual potato chips go, these are the ones that I enjoy the most.
Triscuits - To be honest, I’m not sure why I like these things so much. Sometimes I just feel like I’m eating a wicker basket but something about their taste appeals to me. I don’t eat them that often though. I mean, usually, if I’m eating salty snacks, my go to is the aforementioned popcorn. These are good every now and then though.
Toms Barbeque Chips - I mentioned barbeque Lays earlier. I do like their barbeque chips but when these came across my mind, I realized that I like their barbeque chips more than Lays. I’m not even sure where you can buy these other than Oncue. I’m sure they sell them somewhere else but I guess I’m not observant enough to notice them anywhere else. And since they don’t have Oncue in Michigan, I guess I’m going to have to figure out where they sell them if I want a bag.
Rogue One Radio
This week, we continued our discussion about the Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi. On this most recent episode of Rogue One Radio, we talked about part five of the series. This week’s music came from two Swedish bands: Sweet Teeth and Bring the Hoax. You can check out this week’s episode on Apple Podcasts here:
Or, if you’d prefer to watch it on YouTube as it is intended…….
What am I reading?
As for comic books, lately I have only been reading Star Wars comics. As of now, I’m all caught up on those. Here are the comics that came out this week from my pull list (Nocterra #11 and Crimson Reign #5):
Speaking of comics, I still don’t like the new Comixology and they haven’t fixed it yet. I don’t think they are going to.
As for non-comic books, I am still reading Corporate Rock Sucks because I am a distracted reader. I also started listening to the audiobook of the Jon Moxley autobiography but got distracted by work and haven’t started listening to it again yet. Oh yeah, and remember that book Thrawn Alliances that I started reading months ago. Yup, still not done with that one either. I’m terrible at reading.
I don’t really have a single track to share this week. My listening has been all over the board this week. So instead, I leave you with the link to the Rogue One Radio soundtrack playlist on Spotify. It’s all the bands that have been featured on the Rogue One Radio podcast (unless of course the band is not on Spotify). Enjoy!
