Revisiting Pawnee, Indiana
Issue #12: The Midcard Issue
This week I don’t really have much to rant about so let’s just get this show on the road!
Thanks for stopping by.
For this week’s list, I decided to do one that was not music related since the last two were. This is a list of my favorite television shows. It is listed in chronological order starting with the show that started the earliest:
Firefly - This 2002 space western series was created by Joss Whedon. Taking place in the year 2517, it is the story of a crew of the Serenity starship. This one debuted on Fox in September 2002 and, unfortunately, was cancelled after only 11 episodes.
My Name is Earl - This sitcom was created by Greg Garcia and originally aired on the NBC network. It ran from September 2005 to May 2009 for 4 seasons. Comprised of 96 episodes, it was the story of Earl Hickey, played by Jason Lee, that spends his time making amends for all of the wrong he had done in his life.
The Big Bang Theory - This sitcom was created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady. It centered around a small group of nerdy friends that lived in Pasadena, California. It originally aired on CBS from September 2007 to May 2019. There were a total of 279 episodes over 12 seasons.
Parks and Recreation - This one was a comedy created by Greg Daniels and Michasel Schur. It was about a group of people that worked for the...you guessed it...parks and recreation department of a fictional town called Pawnee, Indiana. It originally aired on NBC from April 2009 to February 2015 and was comprised of 7 seasons for a total of 125 episodes. There was also a special "pandemic" reunion episode that aired in April 2020. This is probably my absolute favorite TV show of all time.
The Mandalorian - This Disney Plus TV show debuted in November 2019. It was created by Jon Favreau. It is the first Star Wars live action TV series that takes place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. It is a space western that focuses on the adventures of the bounty hunting titular character and his “child.” Of this list, it is the only one that is still in production. Season 3 is supposed to premiere sometime this year.
Rogue One Radio
On this week’s episode, we continued our Batman series to discuss the characters rogues gallery. We talked about our favorite Batman villains, discussed the results of our listeners polls and played some tunes from Breaklights and The Drowns. You can listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts here:
I was the guest on a couple of podcasts over the week as well. First, I was the guest on Punk Lotto Pod. We talked about the Smoking Pope’s 1993 album Get Fired. It was a blast talking about punk rock on a podcast. I should do that more often. You can check out that episode on Apple Podcasts here:
The other podcast on which I was a guest was fellow Red 5 podcast ATSW The Escape Pod. We talked about The Batman, among many other things. You can check out that out on YouTube here:
The titles that came out on my pull list this week were Darth Vader #21 and Doctor Aphra #19.
I am quite a bit behind on my comic book reading per usual. I have slowly been trying to get caught up. With the exception of this week’s pull list, I’m caught up on my Star Wars reading. It is mostly just all the graphic novels/trade paperbacks that I’m working toward getting caught up on. I finally got around to reading volume 2 of Radiant Black that I mentioned in last week’s newsletter and I started reading the Fear State trade paperback of Batman which I also mentioned last week.
Here is a list of a few of the other graphic novel/trade paperbacks that are on my “to read” list:
Crossover vol 1 by Donny Cates
Undiscovered Country vol 1 by Charles Soule and Scott Snyder
Department of Truth vol 2 by James Tynion IV
Seven Secrets vol 1 by Tom Taylor
Once and Future vol 1 by Kieron Gillen
Something is Killing the Children vol 1 by James Tynion IV
This week’s track comes from Gainesville, Florida’s Hot Water Music. The song is “Habitual.” It comes from their newest full length album, Feel the Void, which was released on March 18th.
Enjoy your week and remember to be more kind.
