Hello there.
I want to thank everyone that bothers to open these emails up and read this thing. I know that you probably have better things to do with your time but it makes me happy to know that there are people out there willing to take a little bit of time out of their day to check out my weekly mindless ramblings.
As if you don’t already know this, I’m a Star Wars nerd. If you don’t know this, you haven’t been paying attention. The reason I bring this up is that I’m pretty excited for the upcoming Andor series on Disney Plus. It premieres on September 21. It’s a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One.
Speaking of which, Rogue One is being re-released this weekend to get people amped up about Andor. As if I needed to be amped up for it. Along with it being re-released in IMAX, there is supposed to be some sort of exclusive look at the TV series. Maybe an extended trailer? Maybe some clips from the show? Maybe some behind the scenes stuff? Anyway, I will be going there tonight (Friday) with my youngest offspring. I’m really looking forward to it. Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie and it is going to be great to be able to see it in theaters again.
I have a couple of trips to Chicago coming up in the next few weeks. On Labor Day weekend, my wife and I are going down there for AEW All Out. I was there by myself last year and I had an amazing time. The event was nothing short of incredible so I’m hoping that AEW pulls off another great one this year. The wife has never been to Chicago so it will also be cool to show her around the town some. It will be a good weekend. We are also going down there on the weekend of September 16/17/18 for Riot Fest. I have never been to Riot Fest in Chicago. The only time I’ve ever attended it was when it was a traveling festival and came to Dallas back in 2012. I’m looking forward to attending a Chicago event. I’ll be going down there with my youngest offspring. They are excited because they are looking forward to watching one of their favorite bands (My Checmical Romance) there. I don’t so much care for them personally but there are a lot of other bands (both seen previously and not seen previously) that will be there that I’m looking forward to catching. I’m sure that I will write something about both of these trips after they happen.
I did write a couple of things for Future of the Force include a review of Netflix’s Sandman show and a review of the first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
I also did another interview for The Bad Copy on my The Bottom End column. This time, I did an interview with Andy Wylie of The Drowns.
That’s right folks! The list has made an appearance for this week’s newsletter. This week’s list idea came from my friend Dave. His suggestion was a 30th anniversary edition of top 5 albums that were released in 1992. So without further adieu, here they are, listed in descending order of preference:
White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean - NOFX
Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell - Social Distortion
Angel Dust - Faith No More
Meantime - Helmet
Generator - Bad Religion
Rogue One Radio
This week, we began a series we are calling Journey to Andor (because we are all excited with anticipation for the upcoming Disney+ series Andor). On this first episode in the series we talked about the heroes of the movie Rogue One. We also got into a short discussion about sweeteners (like what I talked about in the last issue). We also, of course, played some killer tunes from Lurid Purple Flowers, Venerea, and Dion Warlocke! Check out the episode on YouTube here:
Also, my buddy Dave put out a new episode of One Band 5 Songs. This week, he talked about the East Bay, California-based band Tilt. Good episode. You can check it out on Spotify here:
Only 2 comics came through my pull list today: Darth Vader #26 and Doctor Aphra #23.
This week is a song that we played on the new episode of Rogue One Radio. It is a song by the singer/guitar player of a band that was put together by friend of mine (and previous GET FIRED bandmate). The band is called Dion Warlocke and they have a new album coming out in November. Anyway, this is the first single from that upcoming LP and I’ve been listening to it a lot. You can check it out on Spotify here:
Well, that’s it for this time around. Have a great week and remember to BE MORE KIND!
