Hello readers!
I’m going to try out something different this week. Fewer “segments” and more just jibber jabber in general. I’m pretty much going to be talking about the same random crap. Just doing it differently. It will make more sense when you start reading. Let me know what you think. Thumbs up? Thumbs down? We liked it better the other way. Whatever.
Anyway, there was no Rebel Rock Radio live stream this week due to some seriously bad weather that was in the area on Tuesday.
Last weekend was Norman Music Fest (NMF). It is an annual…you got it…music festival that happens in Norman, Oklahoma. I didn’t go last year and I don’t remember why. The area where they hold it is so close to me. So I went this year. Well, I went on Friday. It had been closed down on Saturday due to weather. On Friday, the bands that I watched were Sedona Crystal Bitch (this had been the first time I finally got to see them), Psychotic Reaction, The Costanzas, Radkey, and The Normandys. Here are some of the pics that I took while I was there.
Also, Punk Rock Saves Lives was as the festival. Punk Rock Saves Lives is a nonprofit organization that travels around the country to different concerts and festivals to promote awareness for health, equality, and human issues. I first discovered them at a Bad Cop/Bad Cop show in Oklahoma City. Before NMF last weekend, the last time I bumped into them was at Riot Fest up in Chicago in 2022. Good people. Check them out.
Tomorrow (today is Friday, May 3rd) is May the 4th so that’s Star Wars Day. It also happens to be Free Comic Book Day. I love when these two dates coincide. So tomorrow I will be hitting up my local comic book shop. I don’t have anything major planned for Star Wars Day. I’m hoping that I will be able to fit some time in there to watch the theatrical re-release of The Phantom Menace. However, that might have to wait until Sunday. I’d do it tonight but the season finale of the Dungeons & Dragons game with Red 5 Tavern is tonight. Be sure to check that out live tonight by the way. Here is the link for it.
Anyway, back to Star Wars Day. No big events planned this year mostly because the wife and I will be attending a wedding. It will, of course, be Star Wars themed. What a great day to have a wedding. Should be a good time.
Speaking of comic books, my comic book pull list this week only consisted of two books: X-Men #34 and House of Brainiac #1.
What else have I read this week? Well, I discovered (through a friend on social media) a Magneto comic that I’d never heard of. It was called Magneto Testament. Pretty interesting story. Mostly a story about his experiences during the Holocaust. No mutant powers stuff in it. Still a pretty good and deep story so that is worth checking out. I also read issues #1 and #2 of Geiger Ground Zero. It is a prequel to the Geoff Johns Geiger series. I also started reading a book called Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis.
I saw two movies in the theater this week. One was actually just a theatrical re-release of the 1979 horror/action movie Alien. Up until now, I had never seen it in the theater. I mean, in 1979 I was only 7 years old so I’m pretty sure that my parents would never have let me watch that. Speaking of Alien, I also re-watched the sequel Aliens on HBO Max. The other movie that I saw in the theater was Abigail. I had seen the trailers for it but wasn’t really interested. However, Alan from Grave Reviews recommended it so I thought I’d go ahead and check it out. It was okay. Solid C (I’m going to start giving letter grades to the new theatrical releases that I watch).
This week in music, the only notable new release was Frank Turner’s Undefeated.
My top 5 listened to artists for the week were:
Psychotic Reaction
Sedona Crystal Bitch
The Bouncing Souls
Fu Manchu
Off With Their Heads
For the track of the week today, here is the opening track from the aforementioned Undefeated album.
“Some people are just gonna hate you no matter what you do. So don’t waste your time trying to change their minds. Just be a better you.”
Enjoy.
That’s it for this week. Let me know what you think about the new format. Have a great weekend and remember to Be More Kind!
