Greetings readers. Here we are at another Monday. January is almost over.
Look folks, I know last week was rough. Especially Monday. If you have to ask……just don’t. You should know what I’m talking about.
However, I like to think of this newsletter as a good escape from…well all of…..uhmm….THAT.
If you’ve been following, you know that I am unemployed. For those that are new, let me get you caught up. In early November, I was laid off from my job because the company eliminated my position. So I’ve been spending the past almost 3 months looking for work. Recently, I had an interview at a place and got offered a position. I will be starting in late February.
Another thing happened last week that I think is worth mentioning. A couple of weeks ago, a former bandmate of mine and I started talking about putting something new together. I was talking to him about the interest of starting up something and he said he would be interested in being involved in the project. So anyway, Friday night we had our first jam session. It was just he and I goofing off and figuring out what sort of sound we were going to wind up with. It was a fairly productive jam session. We wound up writing the music to four songs. We now begin the search for a drummer and a singer (we talked about it and decided that we want to have someone besides ourselves as the main vocalist for this project). I will keep you updated as news about this new project progresses.
Now on with the show….
Here are some new releases from last week that I thought were worth mentioning:
Spare Skin, an indie rock band from Paris France released a self-titled EP.
Lafayette, Louisiana based rock artist Dax Riggs put out 7 Songs For Spiders. I’m not really sure how to categorize this guy. His Bandcamp page has him listed with the tags blues rock, grunge, indie, and stoner. At times he sounds very similar, vocally, to Chris Cornell.
Luby Sparks is an indie rock/shoegaze band based out of Tokyo, Japan. They released the EP Songs of the Hazy Memories.
Your Pest Band is another band based out of Japan. Dead Broke Rekerds released Blaze By Me.
Bergen, Norway based indie/shoegaze/noise rock band Fucales released Airhead.
Amy-Elizabeth Quinn, a folk artist based out of St. Louis, Missouri, released To Leave Or Be Left Behind.
I put out a new Cover to Cover over at Radio Unfriendly. This time around, I talked about the song “Just Like Heaven.” Go give it a read if you haven’t already.
Last week’s comic book pull list consisted of 3 books. They were…
Absolute Wonder Women #4
Ultimate Spider-Man #13
Detective Comics #1093
Here is the other stuff that I read last week:
Daredevil Vol. 1 by Mark Waid
Daredevil and The Punisher: Child’s Play by Frank Miller
Superman Lost by Christopher Priest
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 6: Venom by Brian Michael Bendis
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 7: Irresponsible by Brian Michael Bendis
The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 4: Dark Web by Zeb Wells
Nothing to see here. I didn’t go to the theater and I really didn’t watch anything of note on streaming either.
Last week on Rebel Rock Radio, we talked about the season finale of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
I dropped a new episode of my music podcast Radio Unfriendly last week. Justin of Punk Lotto Pod joined me to talk about Chapel Hill indie rock band Superchunk! You can listen to it on Apple Podcasts below or check it out at the other channels here.
Yesterday afternoon I joined my friend Spencer for the first episode of his new Comic Den podcast. We talked about comic book news and shared some of our favorite comic book stories.
The guys over at Let’s Play Ten dropped another episode of their awesome music podcast too.
The Jesus Lizard released a new track this week. Here you go.
That’s it for this week! Hope you enjoyed your time here. See you next time.
