Happy Friday loyal (or new) readers!
Do you remember when Shazam used to be called Captain Marvel? I do. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Marvel Comics Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers. I think she is great. But Shazam was Captain Marvel first. Kind of dissappointing that they had to change his name. To me, Shazam was always the wizard, not the super hero that Billy Batson turned into. But I digress. I’ve been seeing the trailer for the Shazam sequel and, while I am looking forward to it, it is reminding me of some of the things about the first one I had a problem with. Mostly, I think they gave his foster brothers and sisters powers way too early in the franchise. They’re not giving the character himself enough time to breath and for people to get engaged with his character. Yeah, I know, it’s nitpicky but it bothered me.
So Halloween is coming up on us. How old is too old to go out trick or treating? I can’t remember when I stopped. I was pretty young if I remember correctly. My kids actually didn’t START trick or treating until the oldest one was 11 and the youngest was 4. Long story, I’m not getting into that here. I only have one kid still living with me now. The oldest is married and has 2 kids of her own and the middle one is still back in Oklahoma going to college. So obviously my oldest doesn’t trick or treat anymore. I’d say it should be obvious that the middle child doesn’t but I dunno. Maybe I should ask. Is college age too old? Probably. Personally, if an 18 year came to my house and did the trick or treat thing I’d give them candy. Who am I to judge? I mean, I’m a middle aged man that hasn’t quite grown up myself. Why shouldn’t they have all the Halloween fun they can while they can? The youngest child doesn’t do it. They are more interested in staying at the house and passing out the candy. It seems that the more “adult” thing during this season is to go to Halloween parties. This will be our first Halloween in Michigan so it will be interesting to see how that whole thing goes in the area we are living in right now. Anyway, I hope you have a happy Halloween no matter what you end up doing.
This week was a slow movie week for me. I had other things going on.
Black Adam I’ve been waiting for this one for a while. I don’t remember how long ago it was announced but it seems like it has been a number of years. I have seen this movie twice already. I enjoyed it. I think Johnson did a good job with the character and, overall, I think the writers did a pretty bang up job with telling his story. There were a few things that I could nitpick about it but I won’t. It was good fun. Worth checking out if you are a fan of DC or comic book movies in general.
Rogue One Radio
This week, we had some fun talking about Andor Episode 7, along with some discussion about the Imperials that wear white and the possible existence of space GrubHub. This week’s music came from The Morning Line, Stars Like Ours, and Oh the Humanity!

I would also like to mention a fundraising project that has popped up. A fellow Red 5 member, Tom (and family) were the victims of a horrific house fire recently in which they lost everything. The family is fine but now they are left without a home, clothing, etc.. If you would be so kind as to donate any amount that you can, the family would very much appreciate it. You can donate at GoFundMe here.
My pull list this week consisted of one book: Doctor Aphra #25.
I finished reading Justina Ireland’s Out of the Shadows. It was fine. I’m not sure if The High Republic in general is for me. I love Star Wars, obviously. I’ve just found myself having a hard time getting into this series. The premise is interesting. The time period is interesting. The writers involved in the project thus far are great writers. I just haven’t been able to get really engaged in the books. Even though I have been wanting to get caught up, I’ll probably take a break from the High Republic books for now.
I'm also still reading that Legends Collection that I mentioned in last week's issue.
Other than that, I re-read a couple of Shazam books. Specifically, The Power of Shazam by Jerry Ordway and Shazam: A New Beginning by Roy Thomas.
This week’s track comes from the band New Junk City, based out of Atlanta. They just put out a new album last week called Beg a Promise and the song comes from that album. Enjoy!
Have a great weekend and remember to BE MORE KIND!
