Greeting readers. Welcome to another weekly dose of nonsense.
Yes. Leia looks angry in this picture. She often looks angry. She has what is referred to as resting bitch face. At this point in time though, I think she actually was angry. She does not like me being gone all day at work and when I came home and sat down on the couch, another one of our cats decided that they wanted pets and she was not impressed.
Speaking of being at work all day, going into an office every day makes me remember how much I don’t like wearing pants. I would definitely prefer walking around all day in cargo shorts.
I took a trip to the Dallas Fort Worth area this weekend. I went down there with my son-in-law to help him pack up his stuff (he was temporarily living in Fort Worth because he had a job down there but he recently found a job in OKC). After we were done with that we went to our favorite fried chicken place: Williams Chicken! The best fried chicken ever!
We don’t have a Williams up here in the OKC area. I’m pretty sure that they are all in the DFW area. I know for a fact that it is a Dallas-based company. It is a black-owned franchise. Such good chicken. Very yummy.
After we done at Williams we drove over to my favorite comic book shop in the DFW area. It is a little shop in Arlington called Wild West Comics. I forgot to take pictures there. Oops. Here’s a picture of it I found on the interwebs.
Alright. Enough jibber jabber. On with the rest of the jibber jabber.
There were a good little chunk of new releases that came out last week that I’d like to share with you.
Sunderland, UK based punk band Roach Squad released a self-titled LP on Little Rocket Records.
Newport, Rhode Island indie rock band Throwing Muses released Moonlight Concessions on Fire Records.
Post hardcore band Memory Entry released the EP Our World Is Going to Disappear via Iodine Recordings.
Bambara, an alternative/noise rock/post-punk band from Brooklyn NY put out Birthmarks on Wharf Cat Records.
An alternative band from down under (Sydney, Australia to be precise) Olivia’s World released Greedy & Gorgeous on Little Lunch Records.
Halo on the Inside, an LP from Chicago based alternative band Circuit des Yeux was released on Matador Records.
Stacy Crowne, a rock band from Cologne, Germany released Second to None via Savage Magic Records.
The Pixies are coming to OKC in September. I’m pretty excited about that.
Last week’s comic book pull list was just 2 titles again.
Batman and Robin #19
Absolute Superman #5
Here is some other stuff I read last week:
Avengers Vol. 1 by Jonathan Hickman
Batman Vol. 4: Zero Year - Secret City by Scott Snyder
Spider-Man vs Wolverine by Christopher Priest
Yesterday afternoon, I went to the theater to see the new Jack Quaid movie Novocaine. A tiny bit gory but overall a good watch. I recommend.
On streaming I watched the movies Kill Bill Parts 1 & 2. Strangely, I have never watched these movies before. I keep meaning to but only now just finally got around to it. To be honest, I don’t feel like I was missing anything. They weren’t bad. Just not great. And the story was a lot longer than I think it needed to be. I kept thinking to myself “did these movies do well at the box office?” I looked it up. They both made their money back plus some but neither of them were in the highest grossing films lists of their respective years.
Nobody has told me whether or not they want me to get rid of this segment so I guess I’ll keep it going. You’ll notice that I don’t do this segment every week though. I don’t have much to say about it anyway. I usually don’t.
This week, I mainly just wanted to point out that it is less than 10 days until the start of a new baseball season. The White Sox has a pretty shitty season last time so, at least to me, based on the final standings, there is nowhere to go but up.
In hockey, as of this writing, the Blackhawks are still in last place in the Central Division. They’ve not had a good year. The Dallas Stars are in 2nd place so hopefully they will still make it to the playoffs. NHL season is done next month.
In futbol (soccer), at least in the English Premiere League, Liverpool FC is still in 1st place and 12 points ahead of the 2nd place team (Arsenal). Also in futbol, the MLS season started last month. I really don’t follow MLS much at all but I went ahead and took a look at how a few teams are doing so far. Chicago is 6th in the Eastern Conference. Seattle and Dallas are 10th and 11th respectively in the Western Conference. Oof.
On the latest episode of Rebel Nerd Radio, JD and I discussed the Men in Black movie franchise.
This song came on the Bob Mould album Here We Go Crazy that was released last week. I really like this song. It is definitely one of my favorite songs of the year so far.
