Greetings and welcome to another issue of The Otter Limits newsletter.
It has been a couple of weeks since I’ve published one of these. To be honest, I just haven’t been feeling up to it. It’s been another one of those months. I mean, if I’m being honest, it has been one of those years. If you read this regularly, you know what I am talking about. It hasn’t really gotten any better for me. I don’t feel like getting into it again and bringing you all down so I’m just going to bust into my regular spiel.
Oh wait….before I get into that. Princess Leia had a birthday. She is 7 now. No, not THAT Princess Leia. My cat Leia. Happy Birthday Princess Leia!
Also, I’m sure that you heard the unfortunate news of the passing of Ozzy Osbourne. It was quite a crush to the metal world and the music world in general. Without Ozzy, there probably would have never been a Black Sabbath and without a Black Sabbath there might have never been heavy metal. At least not in the way that we know it now. Black Sabbath has been an influence on so many heavy metal bands. With and without Sabbath, Ozzy had one heck of a great career and we will miss him. The world has another good one.
Speaking of the loss of Ozzy, in memory of his passing I threw together a quick version of Discograffiti where I focused on the Ozzy era of the Black Sabbath catalog.
Discograffiti: Black Sabbath (The Ozzy Years)
It’s been a while since I’ve put out an edition of Discograffiti. Almost a month to be exact. This one is kind of an impromptu edition due to some recent news. That news being the death of original Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne.
First off, this isn’t a new release as far as being brand new. This first one was released on June 30 but I’m just now finding out about it so I wanted to bring it up.
Toronto Canada’s Deforesters released the album Paradise Mausoleum through Colonel Zack’s Offshore Shell Company.
Next, San Jose, California based indie rock band Pacing released PL*NET F*TNESS through Asian Man Records.
The North Shore, Massachusetts based alternative/punk band Moving Targets released Red Eyes through Dead Broke Rekerds.
Lastly, former Sunny Day Real Estate’s William Goldsmith formed a band in Tacoma, Washington called Assertion. They released Basking in the Gaslight through Spartan Records.
Oh wait! I forgot one!
I finally got around to finishing putting together the tracks for the live Get Fired album that I’ve been meaning to put out for a couple of years. Get Fired was the band I was in from 2016 until sometime last year. A live show that we played in McAlester Oklahoma was recorded. So here’s Live at the Rathole!
Last week, I read Supergirl Vol. 1: The Girl of Steel by Jeph Loeb. I’ve got some other Supergirl stuff on my stack of stuff to read that I got from the library last week. I’ll get to them eventually.
This week, I really haven’t read much (it has been a bad mental health week folks) but I did read issues #1-#8 of Justice League Unlimited by Mark Waid.
Here is what was on my pull list this week:
Batman #161
Superman #28
Doctor Aphra: Chaos Agent #2
Justice League Unlimited #9
New History of the DC Universe #2
Monday I saw Superman again. This was my third time. I will probably go see it again at least one more time. I really love this movie.
Also, Thursday night I saw the new Fantastic Four. No spoilers but it’s good.
There are a lot of updates here.
First, on Rebel Nerd Radio this week we talked about Star Wars videos games. Talked about our favorites and some stuff that we’ve never played before but would like to. We also discussed briefly some stuff that is (supposedly) in development.
Also on Rebel Nerd Radio, we did a special live episode of Kryptonian Chronicles where JD and myself were joined by Dave Brown and my son Blue to give our review of the Superman review. I had a good time talking about it. It was a fun time.
On the Comic Den on Sunday, we geared up for the Fantastic Four movie by talking about the 1966 comic story The Galactus Trilogy.
On Punk Lotto Pod, the guys talked about the 2005 Latterman album No Matter Where We Go.
It returns!!! For now. I wanted to throw out one of the songs I’ve been listening to a lot this week. It is the namesake for the title of this week’s newsletter. Enjoy.
That’s it for this week. There might be one next week, there might not. Depends on my mood and how this next week shapes up mentally. Hope you all have a great week.
