Tell Me Why I Had To Be A Powerslave
Issue #85: Give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Do you understand?
Happy Friday readers!
Yeah, that title is very random and has ZERO to do with anything in this week’s newsletter. I was just having trouble coming up with a title this week and an Iron Maiden lyrics just randomly popped into my head so there you have it.
To be completely honest, I’ve been going back and forth in my head trying to decide if I even want to keep doing this newsletter. I haven’t made a decision yet. Should I continue to bother doing these weekly newsletters? It seems like most of the stuff that I ramble on and on about on here I can just as easily say on social media posts. What are your thoughts?
In other news, my wife was in a car accident on Monday evening. She is okay overall but still really really sore. Here’s the background. Last weekend we rented a cabin out in the middle of nowhere for a few days to spend some time with her family. It was in southeastern Oklahoma about 3 1/2 hours from where we live. Anyway, the youngest child and I left on Saturday because the child had to work Sunday morning. My wife rode back with her sister and brother-in-law. They were no more than 3 miles away from our house and they got t-boned by some teenage boy in some sort of muscle car. Either a Challenger or a Charger. I can’t remember. Anyway, my wife took almost all of the impact of the crash. Both cars were totalled. If you were just driving by the accident scene you might have thought it was a fatal accident. But no. Nobody died. In fact, all things being said, everybody was really lucky. Even my wife. No broken bones. Just, like I said, a lot of soreness plus a bunch of stitches in her arm where the door and window crashed in on her. Hopefully she will start feeling better soon.
PODCAST STUFF
On this week’s episode of Rebel Rock Radio, JD and I talked about our favorite baseball themed movies and we played tunes from Gaffa Tape Sandy, Mouses, and Totally Slow. Video and audio links are below.
Dave did another episode of One Band 5 Songs this week. This time around, he covered the band One Man Army. Personally, I like a couple of Jack’s other projects. Jack (Dalrymple) is the leader singer/guitarist for OMA. He has several other projects. My favorites are ToyGuitar and Dead To Me.
MUSIC STUFF
Wednesday night, my band Get Fired played a show in Oklahoma City at the Grand Royale. We were opening for a Dallas, Texas based band called From Parts Known. There was another band that played the show. They were another local band called Belle Riots. Overall, it was a fun show. The next show we will be playing with be here in Norman at a place called NCOM. It will be the first all ages event that we’ve played since back in 2021.
Here are my top listened to artists from this past week (again, based on Lastfm):
And here are the top albums releases for this week:
READING STUFF
This week’s comic book pull list consisted of two books: Batman #146 and X-Men #33.
Some of the stuff I’ve been reading this week includes the Wolverine limited series from 1982, the “current” run of Wolverine by Benjamin Percy, and the New X-Men run by Grant Morrison. Out of all of those, the only one that I have finished reading is the 1982 Wolverine series.
GAMING STUFF
I’ve been playing a lot of Fallout lately. Both Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. But with a twist. I’ve been playing it on my Playstation 5 instead of my XBox. I did not go to the game store on Monday to play Star Wars because of the aforementioned car accident.
FOOD STUFF
Before the show that Get Fired played on Wednesday, I went to a pizza place that I have never been to with the guitar player and his wife. It was pretty good. It was called The Saucee Sicilian. I will probably go back one of these days.
SPORTS STUFF
A new baseball season recently started. As of this writing, the Chicago White Sox have only won a single game. I know it’s early in the season but damn guys! The Seattle Mariners are doing a little better. They have won 3 out of 7. Why the White Sox and Mariners do you ask? I’m not sure if I’ve explained this so here we go. The White Sox are the team I follow and cheer for the most. If you’ve ever seen pictures of me on social media, you might notice that I’m always wearing a White Sox ball cap. As for the Mariners, I used to live in Seattle so I’m slightly attached to them as well. There are a few other teams that I follow but I don’t follow too closely. Mostly just see how they’re doing in the standings. The Tigers, for instance, currently are in first place. Good for them. I can’t remember why I started following them. The Giants are not doing well. They aren’t in last place but they have only won 2 out of 7 games. I think I started following them when Barry Bonds was playing for them and then it just stuck after he left.
As for soccer/football, Liverpool is still at the top of the table just above Arsenal. They’ve been going back and forth being on top lately. Liverpool is currently 2 points ahead of them. Their most recent game was yesterday (Thursday) against Sheffield United. Liverpool won 3-1.
STUFF I WATCHED
Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom - I saw this one last weekend. I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun to watch.
Monkey Man - I saw this one last night. It was fine. Kind of John Wick-ish. I think that is what they were going for. I had some problems with it though. Today is the official release date so most people haven’t seen it. I want to avoid any spoilers with my comments.
TRACK OF THE WEEK
This week, I’m posting an album instead of just one track. Here is the brand new album (just released today) by Belgium punk band F.O.D.
That’s it. Have a good weekend and remember to BE MORE KIND!
I think you should keep writing these. I actually like reading them bro. I hope your wife and everybody involved in the car wreck are better very soon.
