Welcome to another (late) edition of the otter limits.
That’s right. If you are observant you will notice that this issue is a day late. I have been publishing these on Saturdays but I didn’t really feel like spending a lot of time on my computer yesterday so I didn’t get around to writing this thing up. But here it is. Better late than never maybe?
So what’s been going on with me lately? Well, I still haven’t found a job that is better than the call center. With a little prodding from the wife, I decided that I’m going to go back to school and try to get into a different industry. I looked over the types of careers that are in demand and will be in demand for a while and decided to study cybersecurity. It’s an industry that I have thought about getting into previously but just haven’t pulled that trigger for one reason or another. I mean, I’m 53 years old. That might be a little old to be starting over. I dunno. I’m going to go for it anyway. What’s the worst that could happen? I end up not being able to get hired because of my age and I end up working at a call center? Exactly.
Anyway, on to the main jibber jabber.
This was a really slow week for music releases. So much in fact that I only have one album to share with you this week.
That one album is For The People, released by Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys. In my humble opinion, it is their best album since 2007s The Meanest of Times.
Since this is the first newsletter of July, I guess I should list my favorite releases of June. There were slim pickings for this month. The summer has really been slow for good music releases. I did some up with 4 good ones for my list though.
Career Woman - Lighthouse
Truss - Fluorescence
Casual Hex - Zig Zag Lady Illusion II
Smut - Tomorrow Comes Crashing
As promised last week, I finished my re-read of The Infinity Gauntlet.
Exceptional X-Men Vol. 1 by Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero.
Thor: God of Thunder Vol. 1: The God Butcher by Jason Aaron
Superman: Secret Origin by Geoff Johns
Here was this week’s pull list.
Captain America #1 by Chip Zdarsky
X-Men #19 by Jed Mackay
Batgirl #9 by Tate Brombal
Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #15 by Stephanie Phillips
X-Men: Prelude to Future Past #1 by Chris Claremont
The Immortal Thor #25 by Al Ewing
So I made some changes with my pull list this week. Admittedly, I generally read my new comics digitally and buy trade paperbacks physically (so that I can support the local comic shop in that way). I will, however, buy physical copies of specific issues that I want physical copies of for some sort of sentimental value or some crap like that. Anyway, I went to Speeding Bullet on Wednesday specifically to buy a physical copy of the Captain America #1 (because I wanted a physical copy of it) and I wound up also buying the new Thor. For some reason it called out to me. I sat down and read them both and began to realize how much I miss reading physical comic books. The feel of holding a comic in your hands is like no other feeling. For the most part, I was reading my comics digitally because my comic books were beginning to take up too much space in my room. I decided to figure that whole thing out because I am going to start buying my new comics physically again. The space thing I will just have to figure out.
I did not go to the theater this week. There wasn’t really anything out that I wanted to see.
On Rebel Nerd Radio we talked about the 2nd story arc in the final season of The Clone Wars. The story arc that featured Ahsoka and her adventures with the Martez sisters.
I joined Spencer on The Comic Den again on Sunday. We talked about the iconic Marvel story, The Infinity Gauntlet.
I tried out a new sub shop this week. It’s been open a month or so I think. It is located inside the Walmart near our house. Typically, I see a Subway inside the Walmart but this particular Walmart I don’t remember there being one in there. Maybe there was and I just wasn’t paying attention. I don’t go to Subway all that often. There are better sub shops out there in my opinion. Anyway, this new place is called Knuckies. I had the italian. Always a good first sub to try out a place. It was good. I’ll go back.
That’s it for this week. See you next time.
How's that Captain America book?
