Welcome to Monday kids!
This might be the last one of these that I do for a while. I’m not sure. I’ve been wondering why I keep doing this thing. This newsletter that is. I almost feel obligated to do it these days. When I started this thing, I feel like I was writing it because I had something to say. I don’t feel like I have much to say anymore so I just throw up some new releases, what I’ve been watching lately, what I’ve been reading lately, and a couple of other random things. Is it worth it anymore? Maybe I should go on hiatus? At least until I feel like I actually have something interesting to say. I dunno. What are your thoughts? Should I keep doing it or only post an issue when I actually feel like I have something to say. Is that standard new music releases, comic book reading list, and other random tidbits what keep you coming back? I’d really like some feedback on this.
I don’t have any new pictures of the cats. Well, I probably do but I might have deleted them. However, I do have this random picture I took the other day when I was sitting in my car at work while it was raining.
New Releases:
The LA based indie rock project Illuminati Hotties released Nickel on the Fountain Floor through Snack Shack Tracks.
Rock band Garbage put out their 8th album Let All That We Imagine Be The Light through BMG.
London UK’s Caroline put out Caroline 2 via Rough Trade Records.
Cleveland punk rock outfit Whatever… released Into Darker Days via Dr. Strange Records.
A Perfect Pearl was released by the Chad Price Peace Coalition via Double Helix Records.
Favorite May Releases:
Overall, May was not what I would call a stellar month for new music releases. There were some good ones but not a whole lot that blew my non-existent hair back. Here are a few of my favorites from the month.
At Peace by Propagandi
Doom Garden by Catbite
To All The Ones That I Love by Press Club
NoPlace by Wife Patrol
Let All That We Imagine Be the Light by Garbage
Nickel on the Fountain Floor by Illuminati Hotties
Also in music this month, The Methadones put out a new single on May 30th. It is the first newly recorded material that the band has done in a really long time. Years.
The Pull List:
Batman #160
Absolute Wonder Woman #8
Other Reads:
Hulk: Future Imperfect by Peter David (R.I.P.)
This week’s theater trip was a viewing of Karate Kid: Legends. It was good. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. And really, the only negative criteque I have about it was something that didn’t ruin the movie at all and probably wouldn’t ruin for anybody else. Kind of nit picky to be honest. I’m not going to mention what it is because the movie has only been out a few days and I don’t want to spoil anything for anybody.
After hearing last week’s news about the death of Peter David (R.I.P.), I got the urge to rewatch the 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk.
Other than that, I have been binging the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. So far, I have finished the first season and I’ve been working on season 2. Every time I rewatch this I forget how much I like the show. After Parks & Recreation and The Big Bang Theory, this is probably my favorite sitcom.
On Rebel Nerd Radio we covered the final arc of Andor Season 2.
There was no episode of The Comic Den this week. However, I did record an episode of a little project I started called The Gamma Files. On this project, I talk about Hulk related comic books. Right now, it is only available for patrons but eventually I will post it on the YouTube channel. If you want to see it now, you need to a patron. Good time to join. It’s only $2 a month!
That’s all I’ve got for you. Again, let me know your thoughts about the stuff I talked about in the introduction. Keep going or take a break from it until I actually have something to say. Until then……………..remember to be more kind!
Forcing yourself to write can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, the practice is good and can spark creativity. On the other hand, forcing yourself to do something can also lead to burnout.
If you're not feeling it, take a break. Maybe think about ways to change things up so that it's fun again. Either way, we'll be here if/when you're ready to come back.
