Hey readers! Thanks for stopping by.
This week is going to be a short one. I’ve been sick all week and really having been feeling the urge to do much writing.
There is an individual that I follow on Instagram that fosters kittens. While I am glad that there are people out there that do this, I myself could not do it. I would not want to give them away once they get adopted. I don’t know how this person does it. They post pictures of their new foster kittens every day and talks about how much they love them and then once they get adopted, they move on to posting about a new kitten or kittens they are fostering. Respect.
I was at Guestroom Records over the weekend. The one in Norman that is, not the one in Oklahoma City. I wasn’t there for any particular reason. I was down on Main Street and had lunch with the kid and just walked into Guestroom to browse around. While there, I realized that I don’t have any Pixies on vinyl. So to remedy that, I picked up Doolittle. They have a new album coming out in October by the way. It is called The Night The Zombies Came.
There were a couple of albums that were released this week that I was looking forward to but when I listened to them this morning they turned out to be disappointing. They weren’t bad per se. They just didn’t do anything for me. I’m going to holster them in my 2024 music playlist and come back to them another time. Maybe I’m just in a mood. However, a friend of mine came to the rescue and mentioned that a new album from Japan’s Melt-Banana came out today. It is called 3+5.
If I run across any music releases that I missed and find interesting, I will give you updates in my Notes.
I finished watched Community. Now I am watching a show called Legion. I remember that I had started this show at some point but only made it a few episodes in so I’m trying it out again. It is based on the character of the same name from the X-Men comics. It is kind of weird but I think that is the point.
I watched Alien: Romulus last weekend. I enjoyed it quite a bit. In fact, it is probably going to wind up in my top 5 movies of the year list. I will probably go see it again at some point after I’m feeling better.
This week’s comic pull list was only 2 comics. Ultimate Spider-Man #8 and G.I. Joe #309. That G.I. Joe is a new one on my pull list. I used to read G.I. Joe comics back in the 80s and I was curious as to how these new ones hold up since they are written by the same guy (Larry Hama).
I read the New Mutants graphic novel by Chris Claremont. This was the original introduction to the characters that we would get in the ongoing comic book series. When I was done with that I decided to start a re-read of the X-Men series that began in the early 90s. I am starting with the trade Mutant Genesis. It is the first 7 issues of that X-Men run.
I’m also still listening to the audiobook Revan by Drew Karpyshyn. I’m about 3/4 of the way through it now.
We are one week away from the release of the new Star Wars video game Outlaws. I’m pretty excited for it. I pre-ordered it a while back. It is the first game that I have pre-ordered since way back when Fallout 76 was coming out. It is an open world game so I’m excited to see how that plays out.
I did eat at a new place last weekend for lunch. New as in a place I’ve never eaten before. I’m not going to talk much about it or even mention the name. It is here in Norman. It was pretty subpar. I was extremely disappointed. I ordered spinach artichoke dip with chips for an appetizer. It was bad. I ordered as my side (instead of potato chips) a dish of potato salad. It was bad. Not seasoned at all. My sandwich was a club sandwich on sourdough. Mediocre. This place is not a place I will be visiting again. At least not to eat anyway. They play live music there from time to time so I might go back and check that out if there is a band that I want to see.
Because I was sick, we did not do a live stream on Rebel Rock Radio. But go check out our current Spirit of Star Wars series. So far, we’ve talked about the Force and the Origins of the Jedi.
Dave dropped a new episode of One Band 5 Songs. This time around he covered the solo music career of Paul Westerberg. It was a good episode. I need to listen to The Replacements more often. In regards to Paul though, I really like the 2 songs of his that are on the Singles soundtrack.
For a track of the week this week I’m posting a song from the most recent album from The Lawrence Arms. I’ve been listening to them a lot lately. I’ve been trying to decide if I like enough of their stuff to warrant recording a top 5 albums episode on Radio Unfriendly about them. I probably won’t. Based on all the listening that I have been doing, I mostly only like the last 3 records (Oh! Calcutta, Metropole, and Skeleton Coast).
That is it for this week kids. Have a good weekend.
