How’s it going readers?!?
A word of warning for this week’s newsletter folks. There is going to be a lot of Star Trek content. As I will mention below, I was getting caught up on season 2 of Strange New Worlds and it got me all into Star Trek again. I am, of course, a Star Wars guy and always will be. I will, most likely, always prefer Star Wars over Star Trek but I still like Star Trek. Actually, there are some things about Star Trek that I like more than Star Wars but those things are few and far between and overall, I enjoy Star Wars more. In fact, as much as it pains me to say this, I actually prefer the J.J. Abrama “Kelvin timeline” Star Trek movies over any of the Sequel Trilogy movies. I just find them to have better stories and are generally better movies. Just my opinion though. Anyway, that’s all I wanted to say. Beware of Star Trek content ahead.
Rebel Rock Radio did not host a live stream this week so instead I will mention some podcasts that I listened to this week.
Dave put out another edition of One Band 5 Songs. This week he covered the 1980s era of the Irish band U2. Check it out on Spotify:
The guys from Punk Lotto Pod dropped a new episode as well. This time around, they had Dave (from One Band 5 Songs) on as a guest. Check that one out on Spotify:
I tried out a new podcast this week. It was a Star Trek podcast called Trekcast. I listened to their most recent episode. You can check that out on Spotify:
I went to DM Daves on Monday and played a session of the Star Trek RPG. I had never played the Star Trek RPG before. I had also never played an RPG in the Modiphius game system. It was a lot of fun. I’m pretty sure I’ll be going back to play again. My character was a Klingon security office. Essentially, I was playing Worf from Next Generation.
I did finally get a new controller for my Xbox. However, I haven’t really got on my Xbox much this week. I did goof around a bit on a game called Star Trek Online. I’m not sure if it is something that I will play regularly. The idea is pretty cool but the execution and game play itself is kinda meh.
Sunday my band Get Fired had our 2nd practice with the new guitar player. We also tried out a new bass player because our bass player quit. We are pretty sure that this new guy is going to work out. He picked up on the material pretty quickly. We have a show scheduled for February 20th so we need to get the new guys up to speed to be ready for that in addition to working through the songs that will be on the new album.
I did a few top 5 records posts across social media this week. My numbers ones were:
The Joshua Tree - U2
Among the Living - Anthrax
Somewhere in Time - Iron Maiden
I finished watching season 2 of Strange New Worlds this week. After Picard, this might be my favorite Star Trek TV show. I also started watching Star Trek: Voyager. I actually had never bothered to watch this show before so this is my first stab at it. I also started watching Lower Decks.
I did not watch any movies this week unless you count the fact that I rewatched Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness last weekend. As far as movies in the theater, I probably won’t go see one until next month unless I get around to finally watching Poor Things before February.
Nothing on my pull list came out this week so that was kind of a bummer. I haven’t been reading much this week. Most of my free time has been filled up with watching so much TV.
I wanted to talk for a moment about fried chicken. Do you like fried chicken? Where do you typically go for fried chicken? Also, I’d like to talk about what is NOT fried chicken. Chicken nuggets are NOT fried chicken. Chicken tenders are NOT fried chicken. Chicken wings are NOT fried chicken. While, technically, most of these items fried and you might think that they should qualify, they do not. When I refer to fried chicken, I am talking about whole pieces of chicken (breast, wing, thigh, leg, etc..) with the bone still in. So when I ask somebody what their favorite fried chicken is and they respond with some place like Cane’s. No, that’s not it. To me, that is like telling me your favorite steak house is Whataburger. So what are my favorites? KFC is not one of them. I like Popeye’s. I like Williams which is a chain in the Dallas area (it might be in other places but Dallas is the only place I’ve seen them). I’ve never tried Bojangles although I really would like to. Okay, that’s all I wanted to say about fried chicken.
So Bill Belichick has left the New England Patriots. Crazy. I mean, personally, I don’t give a shit about the Patriots but he was there for as long as I can remember. Twenty plus seasons with that team.
In hockey news (because who cares about American football), as of this writing the Chicago Blackhawks are still in last place and probably not going to get much better. They are more than ten points behind the team ahead of them in the standings. I mean, a miracle could happen and all of the teams ahead of them could start losing and they could start winning but that is unlikely. Also as of this writing, the Dallas Stars are in 3rd place and 1 point behind the 2nd place team.
Nothing really jumped out at me this week so instead of a track of the week, I’m going to post my top 5 listened to artists of the week (according to Lastfm).
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend and remember to BE MORE KIND!
