So Wrestlemania XL (40) was this past weekend. That’s it. That’ll all I have to say about it.
Just kidding. I didn’t really watch much of it. Although I have been a wrestling fan for most of my life, I really only watch it these days from time to time and when I do, it usually isn’t WWE. Personally, I prefer either AEW or New Japan. Anyway, I watched a few matches from the first day. I didn’t watch any of them from the 2nd day except from highlights. The thing about WWE is that outside of a handful of performers, I’m not invested in any of their wrestlers. Long story short, I don’t enjoy watching WWE as much as I did years and years ago. But that being said, I don’t really watch much at all anymore anyway. I used to watch pretty regularly but it came down to not wanting to spend 50+ dollars a month on a service that I was ONLY using to watch AEW. So when I do watch, it’s on my computer (which I’m not a fan of doing). I think if AEW jumped on some streaming service that I already subscribe to, I would start watching more regularly. Anyway, yeah, Wrestlemania happened. Roman dropped the title to Cody. Seth dropped his title to Drew and then Drew lost it to Priest. Sami took the title from Gunther (one of the matches I watched).
That’s really all I have to say about that.
PODCAST STUFF
This week on Rebel Rock Radio, we talked about The Phantom Menace (in observance of it’s 25th anniversary), video games, and played tunes from Bayside, Half Past Two, and The Von Tramps.
Dave’s podcast (One Band 5 Songs) is now on platforms other than Spotify. This week, he dropped an episode about the alt-country band Drag the River.
A new podcast that I started following is Vigilante Vibes. They are a self proclaimed non toxic Marvel podcast that talks about all things Marvel. Their latest episode dove into a breakdown of episode 4 of X-Men 97 and discussed the (formerly Netflix) Daredevil TV series.
Another thing that I wanted to mention about Rebel Rock Radio is that I started up the Patreon again. We are going to start doing as much bonus content as we can so you can get as much bang for your buck so to speak. As of this writing, I have some bonus audio on there and a post that only patrons will be able to read. Anyway, it is $2/month and that gets you a free sticker at your initial sign up, a shout out on our regular livestreams, and all of the bonus content that we can put out. If you are interested in signing up just go to https://www.patreon.com/rebelrockpod.
MUSIC STUFF
My band Get Fired has another show next week (Friday, April 19). We are the headliners for this one. It will be the first all ages show that we have played since March 2021 when we played The Rathole in McAlester, Oklahoma. This one will be in Norman, OK which is cool since I won’t have far to drive to get to it.
READING STUFF
This week’s comic book pull list consisted of four books.
Ultimate X-Men #2
Thrawn Alliances #4
Darth Vader #45
X-Men 97 #2
I’m still reading the Grant Morrison run of X-Men. I finished book one and book two. Generally speaking, I’m actually not a fan of Morrison’s writing. I can’t really place my finger on what it is I don’t like about it. However, his run on X-Men is nothing short of amazing. It could very well be one of my favorite X-Men story runs. If you haven’t checked it out, now is a great time to do so. If you subscribe to Comixology, the entire run is part of their Unlimited program.
GAMING STUFF
No Star Wars RPG game at the game shop this week. The GM was sick.
Speaking of the game shop, they are moving to a new location in May. More space for retail, gaming, and everything else. And it will be closer to where I live. Not that it’s all that far from me now.
Other than that, I just played a bunch of Fallout 76.
FOOD STUFF
I’ve been trying to cook more lately. Earlier in the week (I think it was this week) I made a garlic basil sauce with some spinach and ricotta ravioli. The ravioli was pre-made but the sauce I did myself. It went well I think. The wife went back for seconds so I guess that’s a good sign.
STUFF I WATCHED
The First Omen - I liked the original movies (the first 3 anyway) so I figured I would enjoy a prequel to the series. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great either. There certainly are movies that have come out this year that have been much worse. All things being said, it was an interesting way to tell the story behind the story.
Casablanca - I can’t believe I’ve never seen this movie before. Such an iconic cinematic film and I’ve never seen it until now. I watched it on Max earlier this week. It was good. Probably not something I’d watch again however. I didn’t like it THAT much. I’d recommend it though.
The Dark Knight - For some random reason, this movie was re-released in theaters this week. I’m not sure why. I went and saw it on Wednesday though. I had seen this movie in the theater. In fact, of that particular trilogy, the only one that I did NOT see in the theater was Batman Begins. I’m sure this is a hot take but Batman Begins is actually my favorite of the trilogy. I guess, in some ways, The Dark Knight is the better movie. It is really good. I don’t deny that. But there has always been something about Begins that I liked better.
TRACK OF THE WEEK
Here’s the opening track from the new self-titled album from The Blackburns. Enjoy.
That’s all I have for this week. Enjoy your weekend and remember to be more kind.
