Welcome to another Monday misadventure readers!
Some of you might remember the slogan “You’ve Got Mail.” And I’m not talking about the 1998 movie with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. I’m talking about the tagline for the internet service provider America Online. I have been thinking about it because of my current job situation. If you’ve been reading this newsletter, you might know that after several months of unemployment I took a job at a call center. Not an idea situation but it’s a job. I used to work at several call centers. I stopped working at them once I got involved in the digital marketing field. Anyway, America Online/AOL was my first call center job. I got the job when I left the military. It was a job. It had its up and downs. I met some cool friends there. One of which I am still really good friends with (that would be Dave of Oklahoma Lefty). Some good memories and some bad memories. It’s just weird to me to be going full circle back to the call center industry. Yet, here I am. I don’t know what it is about this place or this job but I feel like it has me mentally unbalanced.
Not as many new music released happened last week as the week prior. Not as many that interested me that is. Maybe I’ve just gotten too damn picky. Anyway, there were a few so here is what I came across that I found interesting:
Toronto-based indie/alternative/slowcore artist Bria Salmena released Big Dog on Sub Pop Records.
Niis World was released on Get Better Records by Los Angeles based grunge band Niis.
Sacred Paws, an alternative band from Glasgow, UK, released Jump Into Life through Merge Records.
The industrial rock band Ministry released The Squirrely Years Revisited on Cleopatra Records.
My comic book pull list was a little larger than it has been in a few months.
Ultimate Spider-Man #15
Absolute Martian Manhunter #1
Daredevil #19
Absolute Wonder Woman #6
Green Lantern #21
Batman #158 (first issue of Hush 2!)
I didn’t read much else but here is what I did read.
Secret Wars by Jonathan Hickman
Phoenix Vol. 1: Orbital Resonance by Stephanie Phillips
Friday evening, I went to the theater and saw the movie Death of a Unicorn. Prior to going to see it, I knew next to nothing about this movie other than the synopsis. I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. It was good. Great cast too.
On Amazon Prime, I came across a series called Icons Unearthed and watched their Batman series. It covered the history of Batman in film. Good watch. If you are a Batman fan I recommend.
On the latest episode of Rebel Nerd Radio, JD and I discussed the movie Back to the Future 2 as part of our Back to the Future series.
The start of a new baseball season happened last week. The White Sox actually won their first game of the season so that’s a good start for them. The Mariners also won their first game of the season.
Unfortunately, the White Sox lost their 2nd and 3rd games of the season. It’s still early in the season. Hopefully they’ll do better than they did last season.
This week’s track is a reworking of the song “Revenge” by Ministry. It was originally released on their 1983 album With Sympathy. This was an album that they put out when they were a new wave band. After that album, they more or less morphed into an industrial rock band. Anyway, they re-worked the song and released it on the aforementioned album The Squirrely Years Revisited.
That’s all I have for this week. See you again next time. Next week I’ll cover my favorite albums from the month of March.
