Hey readers! Thanks for stopping by.
I really don’t have much to say in this little intro thing this week so I’m just going to let the goofy stuff below speak for me.
Wednesday was Leia’s Birthday. She is 6 years old now. Leia is the oldest of our 5 cats. She is a diva. She is a huge daddy’s girl. She tends to follow me around the house quite a bit and when I sit down on the couch in the living room, she almost always moves from wherever she is at to come sit on my lap. She is very affectionate. She’s a good girl. Even when she tries to steal our bread.
Here is one of my favorite pictures of her.
Typically you aren’t going to see any political content in this newsletter but here is something political for you…
If you have been reading this newsletter for a while you already know that I’m a big Star Wars nerds. You might even know that I’m a big fan of the character Boba Fett. Recently a listener of my podcast Rebel Rock Radio sent me a Boba Fett action figure that was signed by Jeremy Bulloch (for those out of the loop, Jeremy was the actor that originally portrayed Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi).
Speaking of Rebel Rock Radio…
This week on the show we were joined by Pete Fletzer of the Around the Galaxy podcast. In addition to the usual weekly buffoonery, we talked about the season finale of The Acolyte and the show in general. Tunes on this week’s episode came from The Legendary Swagger, Kalifornia Redemption, and Entropy.
Next week, we are going to be talking about Ewoks.
Punk Lotto Pod dropped a new episode this week and talked about the 1981 album Pleasant Dreams from legendary punk band Ramones.
New Music Friday
I listened to quite a bit of stuff that was released today but there were only a couple of things that I found interesting enough to mention.
Teardrops - Something To Cry About
Semi-Famous - Destroy Ourselves
And since this is issue #101 I thought I’d talk about an album that I really enjoy called 101. It was a live album by British new wave band Depeche Mode. It was released in March 1989 by Mute Records. The band recorded it at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California in June 1988 during their Music For The Masses tour. The album name comes from the fact that it is the 101st show of that tour. It was a double CD release but at the time of the release I think I owned the cassette and not the CD. There was a movie that went along with the release as well. There were some really great songs on this live album. Some of my favorites include “Strangelove,” “Blasphemous Rumours,” “People Are People,” “Somebody,” “Never Let Me Down Again,” and “Everything Counts.”
This week’s comic book pull list consisted of Nyx #1 and Darth Vader #48.
I bought Tales From the Death Star a while back and finally got around to reading it.
A book that I thought I had already read but apparently never got around to reading and finally did this week was Volume 1 of What’s the Furthest Thing From Here by Matthew Rosenberg. Good stuff. I need to read the rest of this series.
I finished the audiobook of Master & Apprentice by Claudia Gray yesterday (Thursday) and the next audiobook I’m going to start on will be Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising by Timothy Zahn.
As mentioned in last week’s issue I am putting together a new Star Wars RPG campaign. I have the players assembled and this week, I’ve been putting together a lot of the details. I’m pretty excited to get this thing started. I didn’t play in the Star Wars RPG this past Monday so as far as gaming goes, I’ve just been playing Fallout 76 and I even played a little Fallout Shelter this week.
I like the beans and rice at Popeye’s. To be fair, I like most stuff at Popeye’s. Their chicken is pretty much my favorite fast food fried chicken. I’m not a fan of their french fries but that’s not saying much because I’m extremely picky about french fries to begin with (I’m sure I’ve wrote about that on this newsletter before). I don’t like their macaroni and cheese either. I don’t remember whether or not I’ve had their cole slaw. Probably not because usually when I order from Popeye’s my 2 sides (when I buy a combo) are either (1) red beans and rice and mashed potatoes, or (2) red beans and rice and red beans and rice.
On the subject of fried chicken. I’ve never had Bojangles fried chicken. I really would like to try it sometime. The closest Bojangles to me is in Lancaster Texas which is almost 4 hours away from me. I need to get down to Texas again soon. Getting some Bojangles is a good excuse isn’t it?
So how about a little baseball update?
The White Sox are still in last place and still currently have the worst record in the league. On the flip side, the Mariners are in first place.
Also in sports, while I don’t really follow NFL much, Rebel Rock Radio does host a free fantasy football league on Yahoo every year. If you’d like to join the league, click here.
Here are some movies that I watched this week….
Deadpool & Wolverine - I’ve been waiting for this one for a while. We saw it last night (Thursday). The theater was packed as expected. This movie was hilarious. No spoilers. Just go see it.
Twisters - I had no plans to see this movie. I wasn’t a fan of the first one. However, the wife and youngest child wanted to see it so of course we went and saw it last Saturday. It wasn’t horrible. It was decent. Visually a good movie. The acting was solid with one exception that I won’t mention here. You can ask me about if you want.
Bright - I saw this one on Netflix. I think I might have heard about it when it came out but I don’t remember. I never bothered watching it when I did so maybe not. Anyway….meh. It wasn’t horrible but it also wasn’t great. It was just kind of there. It was weird.
This week’s track of the week comes from an album that was released back in April. I was listening to my Sounds of 2024 playlist today and this song popped up on it and I forgot how much I liked it. It comes from Grumpsters self-titled album. Enjoy!
That’s it for this week kids. See you next time.
Bojangles chicken is good, not great. l lived next to one in North Carolina, ate there quite a bit actually. The biscuits are good.
I'm going to see Twisters with the step-mom tomorrow.
