Hello readers! Welcome to issue #100 of The Otter Limits!
I thought about doing something special for this milestone but I couldn’t really think of anything all that interesting to talk about so instead I’ll do a little dumb recap of sorts.
My first post on this goofy little thing was a best albums of 2021 post. Well, not including the Coming Soon post which was an introduction to the newsletter. I do not include it as a proper post and didn’t even give it a number. The first post I did where I actually started talking about random stuff was the Birthdays, Relocations, Music, and Comics post in February 2022.
Did I mention on here that I got a new tattoo? I don’t think I did. I revealed it on a previous episode of my podcast but I don’t think I showed it off here. Anyway, it’s a Star Wars tattoo (go figure). It has not completely healed yet. The diabetes makes things heal slower. Also, this picture was taken right after the artist was done. The purple that you see in the photo is from the stencil that was applied and reapplied several times trying to find that perfect sweet spot for placement of the tattoo.
I’m going to try out this new “segment” here on the newsletter where I mention a few nerd/pop culture headlines that I found interesting this week. We’ll see how it goes.
According to Dreamworks, Shrek 5 has a release date of July 2026. I don’t know if you care about Shrek 5 but I do. I love that franchise and I’m glad to see they are doing another one.
Netflix dropped a trailer on YouTube for the upcoming Terminator Zero animated series. The series takes place in the future and some of the folks that will be lending their voices to it include Timothy Olyphant and Rosario Dawson. I think it could be pretty cool. I like this franchise too. It comes out on August 29.
This week on Rebel Rock Radio we talked about episode 7 of The Acolyte and played tunes from The Goodwin Club, Juggernaut, and Rundown Kreeps.
Also on Rebel Rock Radio, we revealed our brand spankin’ new logo:
Dave released a new episode of One Band 5 Songs about the music of San Francisco based band Dead To Me.
Speaking of Dead To Me. A new episode of Punk Lotto Pod dropped and they covered (with Dave from One Band 5 Songs as a guest co-host) the 2011 Dead To Me album Moscow Penny Ante.
This week, there was only one comic on my pull list. It was Phoenix #1.
I read a trade paperback called We Only Find Them When They’re Dead Vol. 1. To be fair, the only reason that I read it was to prepare for Dave’s monthly comic book discussion about it. Every month, Dave hosts a comic book club discussion at Speeding Bullet Comics. It’s fun.
I finished The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray this week and started a new Star Wars book called Master and Apprentice.
I wrote a review of X-Men #1 for Future of the Force last week.
For New Music Friday, I had nothing on my own personal radar for this week and everything that I combed through didn’t really appeal to me. Some was good. Just not great. There was on release that caught my ear and I enjoyed. It was the EP Odes by Carson McHone. I’m fairly certain that the release consists entirely of cover songs. It’s a good one nonetheless.
I only went to the theater once this week. I rewatched Inside Out 2 in the theater because my youngest did not go see it with us when my wife and I went and saw it but had wanted to see it.
Speaking of theaters, however, we switched back to AMC from Regal. We weighed all the pros and cons of both theater companies and determined that, overall, we just like AMC more.
I played the Star Wars RPG again on Monday but otherwise I only played Fallout 76. I am really looking forward to the Star Wars Outlaws game that is coming out next month. If you haven’t been following it, it is an open world Star Wars game that takes place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It is being put out by Ubisoft.
Also in regards to gaming, I am getting further along with my own Star Wars RPG campaign. I have assembled the players and we settled on a time frame on what day we will be playing. I am planning on recording our gaming sessions and posting them on the Rebel Rock Radio YouTube channel. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. I have a good chunk of the campaign written. Well, at least enough of it for the first couple of sessions. Anyway, I’m looking forward to running it and I think the players are excited to dive in.
The idea for this week’s track of the week came from the two music podcasts mentioned above. While not a Dead To Me track, this comes from Jack’s other project toyGuitar. This song is the title track from their 2016 EP Move Like a Ghost.
That’s it for this week kids. Have a great weekend!
