The Fluffy Kitten
Issue #126: "I always liked going south. Somehow, it feels like going downhill."
Hello again readers. It’s another Monday and here a picture of my fluffy kitten for you.
It has been a really blah week. I had some job interviews but nothing panned out. I did have one interview where the company said they had some other people to interview and they’d make a decision this week. But it really has been a drab week. The highlight of my week was when I went to comic book club on Thursday and talked about Shazam. The photo on the right was taken by Matt, the co-owner of Speeding Bullet.
I did a little reading, listened to a little bit of music, watched some movies on streaming but otherwise it was a pretty non productive week. Anyway, here’s the stuff that you come for….
Here are some news releases that hit last week:
London-based indie rock band Ex-Void released their long awaited new LP, In Love Again. Well, long awaited by me anyway. It was released by Tapete Records. Their previous album, Bigger Than Before was #2 on my favorite albums of 2022.
Delivery, an alternative/garage punk/indie rock band from Melbourne, Australia released Force Majeure on Heavenly Recordings. I had never heard of this band. I ran across this in an article from Brooklyn Vegan.
Zephr released Past Lives on Snappy Little Numbers. Zephr are from Denver, Colorado. My friend Justin mentioned this as a new released and I thought it was interesting enough to mention.
I wrote up a new issue of Radio Unfriendly’s Cover to Cover. On this one, I talked about the song “Shocker in Gloomtown.”
My most listened to artists last week (according to Last.fm) were as follows:
For the first time in several weeks ((since I had to make massive cuts due to my financial situation) that my pull list has had more than one book in it!
Ultimate Wolverine #1
Action Comics #1082
Challengers of the Unknown #2
I have been working on getting caught up on the current Daredevil run. Other than that, here is what I read last week.
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 5: Public Scrutiny by Brian Michael Bendis
Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil by Jeff Smith
Daredevil Vol. 2: Hell To Pay by Saladin Ahmed
I have a confession. I had never watched the full Lord of the Rings film series. I watched part of Fellowship but could not get into it. This weekend, I gave it another chance and wound up watching the entire series. I even watched the extended editions. Man, those were really long. I might watched the Hobbit series but I’m not 100% sure if I will or not. I’m still thinking it over.
I also watched a documentary called All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records.
On Rebel Rock Radio we got caught up with the Skeleton Crew TV series. We got behind with the holiday hiatus.
Blue and I did a special live edition of The Batcave to help drum up support for the Patreon. We talked about the 2005 film Batman Begins.
I’m feeling really non-creative about this one. I’m just posting that song that (according to Last.fm) I listened to most often last week. It’s a song by Guided By Voices from their 1995 Aliens Lanes album.
That’s it for this week. Hope you have a good one.
Quoting Treebeard I see! I love the LOTR books & movies and pretty much anything to do with them. Did you watch the extended editions? The Hobbit is pretty good. Not as good as the LOTR but still good, although some liberties were taken like adding things not in the book. There is a series on Prime, The Rings of Power, which is based on happenings from before the LOTR, not as good, many liberties are taken as far as differing from the books (Silmarillion, LOTR, Etc...)but I enjoyed it for the most part. A new animated movie, The War of the Rohirrim recently came out too, it was just ok. Rumor has it Peter Jackson is making another trilogy covering events between the Hobbit and LOTR.
