Happy Friday readers!
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, I started taking my ADHD medication. As of this writing, I have only taken it twice (yesterday and today). Yesterday was a rough one for me. I was having some really awful side effects. I mean it was bad. I called my doctor’s office about them but the doctor and his nurse were in with other patients so I had to wait a few hours for them to call me back. While waiting of course, the symptoms were there, throwing me into a minor hysteria. When I did talk to the office, it turns out that I was not supposed to be taking this medication on an empty stomach. So this morning, I ate some food before I took that particular pill. As of this writing, it’s only been a little while so time will tell if eating something helps or not. Also, they told me that I need to cut down on how much coffee I’m drinking because of the effect that it could have mixing with the medication. And that, my friends, is horrifying. Me without coffee. I shudder at the thought. Granted, they didn’t say I had to cut it out completely but they did say that I need to not drink any for a while. At least until my body gets used to the medication. The next few, whatever (days? weeks?), that I will have to endure without coffee are going to be something.
PODCAST STUFF
This week on Rebel Rock Radio we talked about the Terminator franchise. We focused more on the movies but dipped our toes in the Sarah Connor TV series, the upcoming Survivors video game, and the tabletop role playing game. Tunes on this week’s show came from Jade Dust, Coffin Pricks, and Lysol!
Also, on Thursday, I was a guest on The Exegesis. We talked about the Netflix movie Damsel and a bunch of nerd news.
MUSIC STUFF
Here are my most listened to artists for the week (according to Lastfm):
I’m supposed to go see Circle Jerks and Descendents in Tulsa this weekend on Sunday. I’ve got my ticket. However, I’m going to wait and see how the meds even out and even then I’m not 100% sure that I’ll go. I really want to see Circle Jerks because I’ve never seen them before. I mean, I want to see Descendents too of course but I’ve seen them quite a few times. I’ll let the weekend play itself out. I have until Sunday to decide. Mostly, I’m not looking forward to driving up to Tulsa and back by myself. So far, nobody else that I know is going up there.
READING STUFF
Only one comic book came out on my pull list this week. It was Thrawn Alliances #3.
I have started up my X-Men reading again in preparation for the end of the Krakoan era. As of this writing, I have read Hellfire Gala 2023 (although after reading that it felt very familiar so that might have been a re-read), Fall of the House of X #1-3, Rise of the Powers of X #1 and #2, X-Men #26, and X-Force #43 and #44.
GAMING STUFF
Monday I went to the game shop to play another session of the Star Wars RPG. Since we were allowed to build our own characters this time around, I brought a Wookie bounty hunter to the game. He was a fun character to play. I can’t wait until next week.
As far as gaming goes, Fallout 76 is the only thing I’ve gotten into this week.
STUFF I WATCHED
I went and saw a re-release of Oppenheimer last weekend.
I watched the first 2 episodes of the X-Men ‘97 series. In case you are unaware, this is a continuation of the original X-Men animated series that ran for 5 seasons from 1992-1997. It picks up right where the original series left off and tells the story of the exploits of the team following the death of their leader Professor X. I’m looking forward to the rest of this series. So far, it is telling a really compelling story.
Additionally, I watched a movie on Netflix called Damsel. I watched this one to prepare for the live stream that I did with my friend DJ for his podcast.
Lastly, Thursday evening after I was done recording the aforementioned livestream, my youngest and I went to the theater and saw Ghostbusters Frozen Kingdom.
Did I mention last week that I switched movie subscription services? I can’t remember if I did or not and I don’t feel like going back and reading it to see. Anyway, I was with one theater group and switched to another. The main reasons for the switch were that the seating, sound quality, and screen quality at the new theater group are much better. I’ve seen 2 movies since switching over: The aforementioned re-release of Oppenheimer and last night’s Frozen Kingdom.
TRACK OF THE WEEK
Today’s track is the opening track from the long awaiting (well, long awaited by me) new Jesus and Mary Chain album. The album is called Glasgow Eyes.
That’s all I’ve got this week. Have a good weekend and remember to BE MORE KIND!
Hang in there! I also had to cut my caffeine intake due to meds I’m on and it’s BRUTAL, so I feel your pain -_-
