Welcome to yet another Monday readers!
Not really a whole lot going on right now that is worth talking about. Xmas is getting closer so I guess there’s that. I don’t really have much to say about that though. It is what it is.
The new Superman teaser trailer is supposed to come out soon. I’m really looking forward to that. Well, the movie that is. I mean, I’m actually looking forward to the teaser trailer too. I’m just really looking forward to a different take on the Superman character. I’m not going to lie, I was not crazy about the previous director’s iteration of the character. I feel like he didn’t really get the essence of the character. I am really hoping that James Gunn does. I feel like he does. Based on everything I have seen or read about him, or heard from him in videos, he seems like an actual comic book geek and I feel like he will be faithful to the essence of the character. Plus, the movie poster suggests that we are going to get a Krypto in the movie so that will be really cool.
Let’s see…what else. Hmm…nothing really. I’m still unemployed so there’s that. Oh well, let’s get on with this.
Nothing was released last week as far as new music that really grabbed me so unfortunately I don’t have much for you in this section. Maybe artists have realized that putting out an album at the ass end of the year isn’t really a great idea so maybe that’s why nothing of interest has been released. There is some stuff coming out after the first of the year that I'm looking forward to.
If you haven’t already checked them out, I wrote some music related posts. Here are the music-centric posts for my Class of 2024 entries:
Here are my top 5 listened to artists from last week (based on Last.fm):
Due to the fact that I have significantly decreased the number of comics on my pull list (as explained in last week’s issue) there was nothing on my pull list last week.
Here are some of the comic books that I did read this week:
Supergirl Vol. 1: Reign of the Cyborg Supermen by Steve Orlando
Superman: For Tomorrow Vol 1 by Brian Azzarello
Batman: The Court of Owls Saga by Scott Snyder
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 2: Learning Curve by Brian Michael Bendis
Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 3: Double Trouble by Brian Michael Bendis
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest Vol. 1: The Devil Nezha by Mark Waid
The Final Days of Superman by Peter J. Tomasi
The youngest and I went to the theater on Friday and watched Kraven the Hunter. It was not the most horrible thing I’ve seen all year. I went in with very low expectations. To be honest, I really had no plans to see this movie because, outside of the Venom movies, Sony’s Marvel movies have mostly been absolute crap (I’m looking at you Morbius and Madame Web). I went and watched it anyway because I just wanted to get out of the house and hadn’t been to the theater lately. Anyway, it wasn’t bad. I mean, it won’t make my top 10 list this year or anything like that but, like I said, it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve seen all year.
As far as streaming goes, I got caught up on Dune: Prophecy
Here’s a list of movies I watched last week on streaming:
Dune Part Two - such a great movie
loudQUIETloud: A Film About The Pixies - a documentary that focuses on their 2004 reunion tour. I liked it a lot but then again, I am a huge Pixies fan.
Red One - meh. I mean, I guess it was okay.
Dear Santa - dyslexic kid writes a letter to Santa but winds up misspelling the name on the envelope and mails it to Satan instead.
Cop Out - Kevin Smith directed movie that I’ve never seen before. Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan play partner cops. Not sure why I haven’t seen this one before.
The Suicide Squad - For the longest time I did not like this movie at all. I wasn’t really a fan of either of the SS movies. However, I decided to give this one a second chance and rewatched it over the weekend. It was not as bad as my original impressions.
A few weeks ago, a new ramen place opened up here in Norman called Tamashii Ramen House. There is one in Oklahoma City I think. Anyway, last week we finally got around to trying it out and I’m really glad I did. This is now my favorite ramen place in the metro. As an appetizer we had gyoza, which was incredible, edamame (I didn’t have any of this, it was for my youngest), and garlic fried rice. The garlic fried rice here was the absolute best fried rice I have ever had anywhere! My ramen entree was really good too. I will definitely be back. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos of the appetizers but here is the entree and a picture of
Last week on Rebel Rock Radio, JD & I shared our thoughts on the premiere episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
We also dropped some more episodes of The Batcave to the YouTube channel. The newest episode where we discussed Absolute Batman #1 is still on the Patreon so if you want to see that, you have to become a patron. So go do that! It’s only $2/month! You can do that here!
Check out the new episodes of The Batcave on our YouTube channel here!
We also launched our new series called Kryptonian Chronicles last week. Kryptonian Chronicles is along the same lines as The Batcave except we talk about Superman instead of Batman…obviously. The premiere episode is only available on the Patreon right now but will eventually show up on the YouTube channel.
The guys over at Iconis Podcast dropped an episode last week where they discussed the series finale of Superman & Lois.
Since it is the holiday season, here’s a holiday tune for you.
That’s all I got this week. Have a great week and remember to be more kind!
That Pixies documentary made me like the band even less. Poor Joey just wants to play guitar while the other three are a mess. What a weird, weird band.
