Hello again all you wonderful people. I hope your August was fantastic and that you have an equally fantastic September!
As I mentioned in last week's issue, over this past weekend, I watched the re-release of Rogue One on IMAX in Grand Rapids. But wait! There's more! I did not only watch it once. I watched it 3 times. Once on Friday, once on Saturday, and once on Sunday. My youngest offspring and I watched it together on Friday and Sunday and they have a newfound appreciation of the film. Watching it again in the theater was a fun experience and I enjoy that movie no less than I did when it originally came out. Such a great Star Wars movie.
Also as mentioned in last week’s issue, my wife and I will be traveling to Chicago this weekend for AEW All Out. I am looking forward not only to watching a great wrestling PPV but also hanging out in Chicago.
Not really a whole lot else happened this week besides spending a little time on Fallout 76. The newest update to Fallout 76, The Pitt, is supposed to come out sometime in the next few weeks. I’m looking forward to some new story updates in this game. It feels like it has been a long time coming.
Speaking of Fallout, did you know that there will be an Amazon TV show based on the game? I did of course. As far as I know a release date has not been set but filming for it began in July and some of the set photos have been revealed. Very little information has been revealed about the show but a few of the actors have been announced, the most notable ones being Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, and Kyle MacLachlan, all in undisclosed roles. I am hoping that they do this great video game franchise right.
The reason I’m putting this particular list together is due to a podcast episode that will be mentioned below. This is a list of my top 5 favorite Weezer album in descending order of preference:
Weezer (Blue Album) - 1994
Everything Will Be Alright in the End - 2014
Weezer (Green Album) - 2001
Make Believe - 2005
Raditude - 2009
Just so you know, there are other Weezer albums that I like such as Pinkerton, Hurley, Van Weezer, and others. I just happen to prefer these five above all of those. Weezer is actually one of my favorite bands (probably in the top 10, maybe top 5) despite their numerous albums that are anywhere from meh to unlistenable. Interesting thing about Weezer (well, interesting to me) is that when I heard them for the very first time back in 1994, I was not a fan and, in fact, did not like the song “Undone.” To be honest, I’m still not a huge fan of that song. It was not until after I heard the 1994 album in its entirety that the band grew on me and, eventually, became a favorite band of mine a few albums later.
Rogue One Radio
This week, we continued our Journey to Andor series. We received a surprise visit from my son Blue and we talked about the Empire in Rogue One. We discussed whether or not they are as evil as we think they are and talked about some of the Imperial characters in the movie. We also played tunes from Gogol Bordello, The Master Plan, and The Legendary Swagger. You can check out the replay of the episode on YouTube here:
Also in the world of podcasts, Dave posted another great episode of One Band 5 Songs. This week, he dived into the career of Weezer! If you haven’t checked out Dave’s podcast by now, you are really missing out. He has been doing it for a little over a year and it is a incredible music podcast that is both informative and entertaining. You can check out this latest episode about Weezer on Spotify here:
Another cool podcast that dropped this week was from my friend Justin’s podcast Punk Lotto Pod. This week, they did an episode about legendary (is it legendary?) Smith’s album Meat is Murder from 1985. The guest on this show was Johnny of the band Peroxide Blonde. Check out here on Spotify:
Also, I was the guest on a special Saturday night livestream of Dork Wars. Dork Wars was celebrating the Rogue One weekend and Blake had me on the YouTube livestream to discuss the movie in all its greatness. I had a blast guesting on his podcast. You can check out the replay of that livestream on YouTube here:
I would also like to give a shout out to all of the cool podcasts that are a part of the Red 5 Network (which is the podcast network that Rogue One Radio is a part of). You can check out a list of all of those great podcasts here:
Nothing came out on my pull list this week so that was a bummer. There are a couple of things that I started reading this week. Both of which I will probably never finish with my current rate of distractions but I figured that I would mention them anyway. First is another Star Wars book called Guardians of the Whills by Greg Rucka. The other one is titled How the Force Can Fix the World by Stephen Kent. Which, I guess in a way, is also a Star Wars book.
Thanks to the aforementioned podcast episode by Dave, I have been listening to a lot of Weezer this week. With that being said, this week’s track is one of my all-time favorite Weezer songs. It comes from the 1994 self-titled album, also known as The Blue Album. Here is that song for listening pleasure from Spotify:
That’s it for this time. Have a great week and remember to BE MORE KIND!
